Hey everyone!
While we will not be able to do much more for the target system in the current version, I would like to go over some improvements planned for 2.0.
...
As mentioned in previous interviews, we will be totally revamping the gamepad controls in version 2.0, as well as preparing optimized UI and control methods for both gamepads and mouse/keyboard.
The current focus right now is on tuning and optimizing the mouse and keyboard controls to make it feel like modern day MMOs. We will definitely be looking forward to the feedback we receive once everyone tries out the new control functions during the upcoming beta test!
Please let us know if we'll be able to toggle in and out between friendly, enemy and all targets. I for one would like to by-pass going into the menu which makes no difference at all.
So far it stays "all" no matter what. (and it's hovering over my name.
~'\[[_LEGACY_]]/'~TENTs because solo-friendly content forces me to want one!

Uhm. Using type A targeting, hold the autorun button and press O,X,△ or □ to switch between filters.
Using type B, it's left/right to target, up/down to switch filter.
It's all on the lodestone, first chapter even: click
This is good to hear. I do hope the targeting priority will be fixed too though, since it's a bigger annoyance most of the time.

I am yet another Keyboard only user. my wife is the same also. Please leave this option for the keyboard only players.
I have finally have my controls down to second nature. I can do all combat targeting and movement with my right hand
only. it's soooo quick
Hey reps, any chance you'll answer the OP instead of regurgitate a translation about SUB-TARGETING which has nothing to with primary target priorities?
This thread has been going for 7 months, and still doesn't have an answer or an acknowledgment. On the JP side the a person asked about sub-target and WS issues. Within a week they were given a definitive answer.

I play with a PS3 Controller and have absolutely no problems targeting anything... and I use Mode A... I have Target only enemies engaged on so when I am in a fight either solo or party and I take out my weapon [Left and Right on my d-pad] Targets all mobs aggroed to the pt. [Up and down] target all party members. I also use my arrow keys for extra targeting options as well, I've set the left and right arrow keys to target all engaged enemies and I have my up and down arrow keys set to select only attackable mobs and it always starts with whats closest. Otherwise when I'm not in active mode my {left and right} buttons on my d-pad cycle everything... I can out target anyone with this set up.
Just in case someones interested
----------
Targeting Mode A
Config - Target settings - Target only engaged enemies [ON] (only happens when in active mode with targeting mode A)
D-pad {left and right} (Non-active: selects everything) (while Active: Only Targets Engaged mobs)
D-Pad {Up and Down} (not in a party: Only Selects me) (in a party: Cycles through party members only)
Keyboard Arrow keys {Left and right} (Target Nearest Engaged Enemy) Next is set to Right and Previous is set to Left
Keyboard Arrow keys {Up and Down] (Target Enemy "this targets Only attackable NPCs") Next set to Up and Previous set to Down
----
Also for added bonus I can switch with my controller from ALL to Friendly to Enemy just by Hitting the Auto Run button which I have set to L1 while at the same time pressing the mini menu button[Square], the main menu button[Triangle], and the select button[X]
So thats
Auto Run[L1] + one of the 3 functions
L1 + Square = All Mode
L1 + Triangle = Friendly Mode
L1 + X = Enemy Mode
---------
Honestly I have so much personalized control with my targeting people often ask me what I play with and when I tell them 90% PS3 Controller 10% Keyboard they honestly think I'm lying to them.
Seriously they fixed the targeting and I have the same target set up as in Final Fantasy XI. I just don't think anyone of you guys have taken the time to really study it and just want a well-fair patch to make it even more easy mode then it already is... Gamer sense people... go get some.

Also another note, to switch targets i tap in my left joy stick to untarget then double tap or triple tapping cancel button which is circle and then i proceed to use my enemy specific buttons to target something else it litterally takes 2 seconds also i dont have auto target toggled on i choose when i want to auto target if anything i'd like full controll of my camera while in auto target instead of the camera being fixed. Make my character fixed not my camera.
having target nearest does't do a damn thing when you want to target the next nearest or the next next nearest.
Current target priority is given to "side of cycle to midline" so that means if you press target nearest you'll get what ever is up front and closest to you. But as soon as you cycle off that it will target what ever mob is "left" or "right" most of your field of vision to the the next in to midline of you "FoV"

the problem with our current targeting system if that it works from the edge of you field of view and works it's way in regarless of distance.

If you want to target something specific, currently you're going to need to use a mouse.
In 2.0 I believe it has been said that there will be a list of valid targets to chose off of.
Liniont and Halvaard_Vidan, as ChiefCurrahee tried to tell you multiple times already: You are missing the point.
The target filtering is not a problem (except for the annoyance of valid targets not being filtered properly, fixed in 2.0)
The order in which you cycle through available targets, is. It simply does not make sense to target that Ixali sticking a sword into your belly from the left after you target that wolf watching grass grow 100 yalms away to the right.
You can't say "well, just use mouse". That's not the point. If they are offering alternative control schemes, they should implement them properly, or not bother it all.

I don't get why you want left or right targeting when you can have a list of engaged mobs on a list to choose from.
