Why did they put Materia next to Repair?

Why do they have to put Materia right next to repair? I just accidentally materiaed my +1 wand that had a healer's hand 4 on it. I guess I'm so used to materiaing things that I clicked the wrong thing.

People generally don't want to materia stuff they've put materia in, so why do they not have a better safeguard in place? I've known others to accidentally materia gear too. Reminds me of when they had the option to destroy your retainer with everything on it right next to the dismiss option.

This is more to the developers than the forum trolls who will cry the UI is amazing.

omg the ui is amazing u should have looked wat u were doing or counted to 3 Mississippi everytime u clicked on something

I hope you got a good materia out of it!

When you try to attach second materia to something, there is a pretty big warning sign before you do. Maybe they could include something like that when you go to materia an HQ item or when you go to convert something with materia attached. Or perhaps have a completely different interface for converting something into materia. In other words, dont have the conversion process take place from the inventory menu.

    I bet it was a tier 3 MND.... it's always a Tier 3 MND...

This hasn't happened to me yet fortunately, but I do sometimes second-guess myself between "Materia" and "Meld". They should give materia its own menu like suggested and change "Materia" to "Convert"

I've actually had to double check my inventory to make sure I materia'd the right things a few times. Haven't miss clicked yet but it is very easy to do so. It would be nice to have the ability to lock pieces of gear from having the option once they had materia in them.

There is a "are you sure?" dialog before you convert anything. Pay attention to what you're doing.

Was wondering how long it would take for a troll to appear. 5 posts, I'm impressed.

Anyway I'm pretty sure the same dialog box comes up when you do a repair too.

I got a Manathirst 3 from the convert. Such a waste lol.

Its not nice to call people names. Hiirnoivl isn't a troll just because he said something you don't like and especially as he said something correct. I would also note you don't get the same dialogue when you repair something, instead you kneel down and the repair screen opens, but with all your rank 50 classes you know this having repaired all sorts of things.

Hopefully, you have learnt something from this, in which case it hasn't been a complete waste.

Hah! Yeah, you probably should have paid more attention to what you were agreeing to. Especially what with how Repair and Materia read completely different.

Shame about the lame resulting materia, but still.

There's nothing wrong with calling a troll a troll. I specifically said in the OP that this was more for the devs than people to come crying that the UI is amazing.

SE have nerfed the hell out of repairs so it's not like you do one ten times per day any more. You may however be converting ten pieces of materia per day so it's easy to click the wrong option by mistake when they are right next to each other in the inventory.

I suggest you read up on HCI before posting crap like "it's your fault". The UI sucks for a reason. And while it is being replaced there was no reason to put the Materia option right next to Repair like that in the first place. The funny part is the default option is Yes, yet SE don't want you potentially wasting 5k gil in the airship port and set that default as No.

There's a reason they've moved the destroy retainer option from under the dismiss retainer option to somewhere you're less likely to accidentally use the option. It's all part of this HCI thing you're reading up on. Likewise the destroy gear option needs looking at for items you obviously don't want to destroy except in rare cases (those with materia in).

I think the UI is fine, but it should at least default to no.
