    Class Reform Suggestion

    Class Reform Suggestion

Looking over the planned changes for the battle classes I am extremely excited. I'm also excited by the images of what 2.0 will be like.

The idea of having a base class and then a certain alotment of abilities from other classes I think is great. The only other thing I think could make the system better would be to allow a certain number of traits from a different class as well.

Thus at level 50 you would get
15 action from base class + 10 actions from other classes
11 traits from base class + 2-3 traits from other classes

This idea came to me from the ffxi concept of the subjob, where you not only got the abilities of the subjob, but also some of the traits. I feel that this suggestion would keep the defined classes while also allowing a little more freedom to create the character a player desires.

Looking over the concerns of players, I wanted to also suggest a method for equipping actions/spells that is slightly different from what is implied currently.

People are concerned about the lack of different tiers and spells. One method to combat this would be to use something similar to the blue mage system in ffxi. In this case, you would have access to all abilities from your base class, and can then equip 10 abilities from other classes. The action bar however would be seperate from the equip menu, and equiping a spell would add access to different tiers of the spell.

I.E. you are a Gladiator, you get all of your gladiator actions and traits, and then you also equip cure and sacrifice.
This would allow access to cure, cure II, cureIII, sacrifice I, sacrifice II, and sacrifice III.

This could then be limited by tiers, so that the equiped abilities determine the abilities, and the character level determines what tiers are available.
    Level 1+: Tier 1
    Level 20+: Tiers 1 and 2
    Level 40+: Tiers 1, 2, and 3

Traits are class-exclusive for designers to have better control over main class action vs. cross-class action balance.

If you go and change that status quo, you go and make things harder for the designers as well. It will always be a double-edged sword.
