Meh, while the positives are nice (less lag, no language barrier etc) the negative side that I'm afraid of is the player population.

If I log in late night/early morning, I'll be in NA prime time and have people to play with/folks on LS to talk to
If I log in after work/in the evening, I'll be in EU prime time and and so on.

I'm sure I'll find people that play at weird times in "my" regional server but they won't be as many I suppose.

Plus the issue of losing friends you're used to playing with just because of the region sever thing.

Even in region specific servers people will group up and form cliques and some won't play with the rest, I'm for keeping them the way they are now.

I love having multiple nationalities on one server, but for performance reasons I understand SE's drive for localization. My only concern is whether or not there will be enough players to adequately populate regionalized servers.

I would prefer it, I'd rather play with US or European Players, I dont mind multi-cultural but I just tend not to play with JP, not by choice, just never happens.

There has been occasions where I've joined a PT for events (dungeon etc) and there has been non-English speakers which even Google Translate and the In-game wont does not help and they still dont understand their role in the PT and it causes this awkwardness of "Sorry but you have to leave..."

There is also the Lag issue, not matter how optimized after FFXI I doubt they will do a great job. No MMO i've played where the servers were in JP or Korean has ever resulted nicely for me and I've always had to reroll on a EU Server.

So I am all for the choice. If you want to play with JP, pick a JP server.

Um, some of the JP are just as childish/rude. Last night while camping Ranig'Oh, the one for Sipahi Turban, a group of JP came and camped on top of me and my friend. Because we weren't Japanese, and because we were only two people, they felt it was appropriate for them to do this. JP only care about other Japanese players because of 2ch, and the lack of them wanting to be posted about on 2ch for doing something disrespectful. A guy was streaming his game (Japanese) and left when he saw us there because he didn't want to get posted on 2ch. 2ch is a powerful thing.

So please, the whole "Americans and Euro" thing can lie, be dead, and stop hitting that poor pony. Americans aren't the only ones who are jerks on the internet. Lest we forget the "JP ONLY" search comments from xenophobia caused by a lack of some Japanese's willingness to interact with Americans in the first place and without any meeting with an actual American player.

The real issue is the latency gap between the servers. This wasn't as big of an issue with XI. Let's just hope they fix the latency with 2.0. If you want to complain about nobody playing this game now, just wait for a regional server.

I would personally stay on a international server. I have met some really cool Europeans and some kick ass Aussie blokes. My interaction with the jp player base has been rather limited to be honest. Not that i am not open to it, its more or less my play time vs there's.

Regional servers I feel are a horrible idea. One of the best thing about XI and XIV are the global servers.

The only pro I see is lag reduction, and if they are still in Japan the lag will not be removed. So unless they put up servers in the respective regions/subregions it will be completely pointless to do. And the game would need millions of subs to do this effectively without having player shortages as well which is another hurdle.

The cons are a worse economy, huge periods where the server is all but vacant (outside the regions prime time), and a much higher volatility if people from a region mass exodus like they tend to on NA servers when a new mmo comes out. Look at the old unofficial NA servers in XIV now mostly ghost towns compared to JP unofficials.

Somehow I feel like most of you neighsayers have missed Yoshi saying that regional servers aren't replacing the international ones, but rather coming online alongside them.

While the international servers are staying, I can't help but wonder if the inclusion of regional servers will hurt them. If international servers become less diverse and/or populated from the draw of regional servers I'll definitely be missing the diversity of the old days.
