Nope, sorry. Everyone's childish. Your sample size of Japanese players that you've played with is probably very limited.
I like the idea of divided servers. let's face it most people want to play with people who speak the same language. I don't mind playing with people who don't speak English but if I could only communicate with auto translate I think twice.
I am against segregated servers, I think it's such a close minded idea. People think it will somehow be the solution to lag or rude players and that couldn't be farther from the truth on both counts.
-Servers WILL stay inside of Japan for cost reasons
-You meet douchbags that speak your language just as often as people who speak another language, your just desensitized to them.
Open your eyes and realize that people can be douchbags wether they speak your language or not, and no Japanese players are not as Xenophobic as people make them out to be.
the reason i likes multi culture servers is :
1- Auction House, easier to sell/buy, many ppl to buy from/sell to
2- Server seemed always busy and lively, can form/join party at any time of day
can skip the party part now cuz exping is faster, relatively. but if they do something to the auction house (like making it on different server, multi servers can buy/sell in it) would be cool, but still wouldnt mind anything
and btw the servers will stay in japan because of maintenance/patches
The big thing I don't like right now is how Japanese players can tag NMs before they are even visible to players from other regions. If they can alleviate that then I would like multi cultural servers to remain.

With PVP on the way I definitely want regional servers. I don't care if the servers are hosted in Japan... at the very least I'll be on a fairly level playing field, everyone's gonna have approximately the same lag I do.

Providing the choice of dedicated servers to regions does have its benefits in language uniformity and provides better response times, but it also provides another option to split friends apart and lowers the mode players online.
One thing I liked about having international servers as the standard is the player population is higher all around, rather than having a single prime time hour if it was regional. Such as, the three major visible peaks were NA, EU, and JP peaks. It is easier to find a pick-up party if you happen to be playing at an odd hour of your region, and finding a larger slew of players still pursuing different activities.
As for people having trouble joining a JP party, I haven't had much issues with joining one or even inviting JP players into my own parties. We share common goals. Despite the fact that the communication is lacking, the party still knows the general direction it is taking without words.
For example 90% of the conversations had in my EXP parties are just general banters between friends and players. Other 9% is just deciding where to go, which you only have to follow the group. The last 1% are individual player request such as where a player might request a short break, mention he is AFK for a moment, or mention he is leaving soon.

I'm all for multiculturalism. I don't want separate servers, and I've never had alot of problems with the "JP only" mentality. I have encountered it once or twice in my FFXI career (7 years) but most of my encounters with japanese players have been pleasant ones.

I've said it a few times, I really dislike the idea of language specific servers. It takes something away from the 'ideal' splitting everyone by language, and I know I'd feel the difference; I always find myself a bit gladdened seeing another language being spoken and trying to divine a bit from the little I know, even moreso the few times I've managed to hold a conversation, if only a small one, without using the auto-translator. Not to mention the servers always feel alive because there's near always someone, from somewhere, playing. It doesn't matter if there'd be global ones, too, it just.. it feels so cynical and disappointing, even before we get into the economy implications and so forth, and the fact that the global servers will always suffer beside the language-specific ones.
A lot could probably be done to help with lag.. .. but making servers language specific's not going to help with that. Sticking a language tag by the server name does not equate to moving it to a different part of the world or optimising its data transfer architecture.
Anyway, no, I was so immensely disappointed .. and a little bit sickened, when Yoshida announced the intent for language specific servers. Not up to a full blown argument on the matter, though. I'll dig up my old posts on it if necessary but just stick me vehemently in the 'Don't' column, for now.
