Make your own community website then...there's lots of gaming portals that allow that and you can make all the off topic forums to your content.

Very true and I am a member of a few. But keeping the community in one place and giving them the tools they need/like is what makes it strong. 1000 players in the same place is a far better community than 1000 spread across 6 different forums on 7 different sites.

Why the hell would a Final Fantasy XIV forum need to have a section like that? Go to Gaia Online if you want to just say stuff for the sake of saying it.

Erm to talk with people who clearly share an interest with you... in this case ffxiv. XI used to have chat rooms that were great when the maint. was ongoing.
