General discussion about the game...

1. English Forums = English Post...unless it's a lil Japanese to cheer Yoshida on.
2. General Discussion about FFXIV does not mean for for all posting. If you want to do that go to a chat room or something.
3. Well your XXXX after the Merry Christmas can make the post be deleted.
4. Christmas as it is in this day and age has no relevance to religion. Santa, lit trees, candy, and presents.
5. While some may celebrate "Christmas" as a religious holiday...if you have not seen the trend in the last 10 years that it's pretty much completely void of anything religious these days. Go Christmas shopping unless you go into a religious store you'll probably only find Santa and reindeer.

4. I'm sorry but no. I'm not religious but the religious meaning is there with christmas. just because the commercial market jumped on an opportunity to exploit a religious holiday does not make it any less religious in meaning.

If you didn't notice you will never see Merry Christmas as an event...just as you did not see Halloween as an event. There might be some events that fall inline with said holiday but they try to be sensitive.

To your point 4 if that were the case certain groups should totally be offended by Halloween event. And...ooh this game uses magic...it's...you know where I'm going with this. Let's just end it there. It's A GAME!

And the forums do have SPECIFIC rules...which I bet most have never read. It's very specific...as to what's allowed.

Talking about "Christmas", which is a seasonal event in XIV, indirectly relates to the game. What the hell is Eid Mubarak? As far as I know this game does not mention the former dictator of Egypt in any shape or form.

I think you're missing the point of the real reason the thread was most likely closed - not just because it was off topic, but because the topic was attracting trolls who posted offensive content.

Usually purely off topic posts will just get you flamed by the community. The forum mods generally only step in when it escalates beyond that.

You do know, of course, that Eid Mubarak is an expression muslims use to greet fellow muslims on certain holidays, don't you? Even non-religious people use it. The mubarak in the phrase is NOT deposed Hosni of Egypt... it means "blessed" in Arabic, and it completes the phrase, which roughly means "A blessed festival to you!"

I would expect you know all this, since your very name in the game is a variation of the Westernized name of a star (Alpha Orionis) the original form of which is in Arabic (Bait al-Jauzā') since it was the Muslim astronomers of old that named it.

Sometimes it's best to be quiet, when your fingers hurt so much... so much that even to google something copy-pasted from a forum seems like a chore.

Though ACTUALLY I'm pretty sure the main reason they closed the thread is because they didn't want a thread where everyone says

Eid Mubarak a zillion times.

Happy XXXX 100x over. It was said once that's plenty for all...and it only takes one to ruin the Happy part. Don't over react. It was more or less to prevent post bumping with everyone saying nothing but the same thing.

And with that Eid Mubarak...and time for me and maybe everyone just to calm down and end on a happy note.
