(Sorry for my English, if you could correct me and improve this text I’ll appreciate)
First of all, since the dark knight is a tank, I thought the samurai as a DPS. But unlike the ninja, the samurai is a loyal combatant. I don’t imagine him using skills behind the enemies to increase his damages.
On the contrary I see him alternate position between front and side. Like the monk he’ll be using stances. And move accordingly toward his opponent.
For me the samurai wear heavy/medium armor like dragoon, and only a katana as a weapon. Also he’s a TP user.
I didn’t deliberate with the skills/stance name but I’m sure we could think of something cool from other FF games!
The stances:
Middle Stance: A balance stance. No bonuses; you can use all your skills without restriction except for the stances related skills.
Upper Stance: A defensive stance. The samurai wield his katana above his head, increasing his defenses, but slightly reducing his damages. While in this stance, reduce the damages for you and your allies touched by the same cleave than you.
Lower Stance: An offensive stance. The samurai wield his katana below the belt, increasing his damages. While in this stance, increase the damages received from cleave.
Stance related skills:
Skill Middle stance 1: Normal attack deal X potency, require middle stance.
Skill Middle stance 2: Combo attack deal X potency, bonus effect if combo with skill 1, require middle stance.
Skill Upper stance 1: Normal attack deal X potency, bonus damages if on the foe’s flank, require upper stance.
Skill Upper stance 2: Combo attack deal X potency, bonus damages on the foe’s flank, bonus effect if combo with skill upper stance 1, require upper stance.
Skill Lower stance 1: Normal attack deal X potency, bonus damages if in front of the foe, require lower stance.
Skill Lower stance 2: Combo attack deal X potency, bonus damages if in front of the foe, bonus effect if combo with skill lower stance 1, require upper stance.
Skill 3: Combo finisher deal X potency, bonus effect if combo with skill stance 2, change to upper stance if combo with all skill stance 2.
Skill 4: Combo finisher deal X potency, bonus effect if combo with skill stance 2, change to lower stance if combo with all skill stance 2.
Skill 5: Combo finisher deal X potency, bonus effect if combo with skill stance 2, change to middle stance if combo with all skill stance 2.
As you can see I love the monk, it’s similar, except the samurai change stance only after the finisher, unlike monk who change stances every move.
The samurai has the choice to change stance to fits his need like reapplying dot/buff/debuff? by using the appropriate combo finisher. Or just staying in lower stance to maximize his DPS if everything is up. Or even going in upper stance to prevent a cleave.

We could add some OGCD to fit between the main rotation skills.
Skill 6 (Shiradori): Deal X potency, Interrupt, 30sec cooldown.
Skill 7 (Mineuchi): Deal X potency, stun X sec 60sec cooldown.
Skill 8 (Iainuki): Deal X potency to a target with HP under 35%, 60 sec cooldown.
Now the fun skills, the most important part. The “fun skill” as I call them are the Job identity.
You know Summoner summon. Black mage teleport and explode everything. The paladins raise his shield and protect his allies. The ninja use Ninjutsu, or stealth, machinist use machine, astro cards, etc…
Skill 9 (Zeninage): Range attack; toss 10 gils to the enemy deal X potency, spread 5y around the target to deal aoe damages.
Skill 10 (Darkmoon) : AOE attack, deal X potency, the damages spread to all for within 5y of the target
Skill 11(Fire Blossom): AOE attack, deal X potency in a cone in front of the player.
(Like the dragoon rose pellet, but on fire: P )
Skill 12 (Retaliate): Counter all physical damages by an instant auto-attack
Skill 13 (Mirror of Equity): Sap a target for 13 sec, all damages cancel the effect.
And finally the cross class skills available:
Blood for blood, Invigorate, Internal Release, Mantra, Shield, Stoneskins.
To conclude, my samurai is a DPS who can support tank/ other close range dps to mitigate cleave. He must alternate his position in front and side as well as his stances.
Note: 17 binds without counting cross class skills, it fit controllers need for console players.
