Help Friends Cant Join Sever

Hello after a pretty long hiatus I have decided to come back to FFXIV and I have brought 5 friends with me.

They all downloaded the game yesterday and since then have been trying to create a character on Ragnorak as me and a few other friends already have characters there but the server is always down for new character creation so far everytime they have been able to get online. Is there any way around this so they can join us? It's not really setting the best first impression for them.

If I give them recruit a friend code will that save them a slot on Ragnorak? I just don't know what else to tell them at the min apart from keep trying but it doesn't seem very good to a new player trying to join a friend having to go through all this over the last 2 days.

Anyone have any ideas.

There's no way around that, only advice I can give you is try creating characters during none prime time. For example the most popular servers are restricted from character creation all day long, however at 2 am - 5am pdt for example, you always can make characters on these servers. Not sure about Ragnarok but give that a try, otherwise there is sometimes the possibility of creating the character somewhere else, then pay for server transfer, but it's not 100% and you might end up with the same problem plus you have to pay for the transfers.

Here's a other tip, create the character prior and save the appearance data, so by the time you are able to create characters on that server or any server, you can just load that, and don't miss out on your chance because you spend 40 minutes on the looks of your character

Usually making a character late at night/early morning as suggested will work for crowded servers.

The Recruit a Friend codes aren't tied to any particular server, so won't help them for this purpose (though it's still worth doing, as you and your friends will get some good items from it). But the restrictions are based on how many people are currently logged in, so finding the quietest time of day is your best chance of finding it open for character creation.

Have them save a character so they can make one quickly. Then they set an alarm so they can get up in the middle of the night to make the character and go back to bed.

It is also possible to create new characters on normally closed worlds right after maintenance ends. There is a chance that there will be maintenance soon to fix the Moonfire Faire bomb quest debacle so that might be the best time if they can't get on your sever and don't want to pay for a server transfer.

The first impression is unfortunately quite bad for anyone who tries to start the game on a busy server, but you can comfort your friends with the knowledge that this allows there to be no login queues at most times. The restrictions do deter newcomers from making a character on busy servers as only the people with existing friends on that server would do so. I used to play WoW on a really busy server and even at the end of patches and late in expansions there would still be a queue to get to play the characters I had already created. It's better to lose a few days play time to make a character than to lose 30 minutes of play time every day because the server is too full.

The best times to make a new character are just after maintenance, early in the morning and during usual work/school hours. Make sure to save the appearance data beforehand and memorize the name, deity and chosen birthday so you can make the character quickly.

The $18 paid character transfer also seems to either ignore these restrictions or catch an opening better than humans can. Although I haven't used it myself, all tell me it just instantly grants the transfer regardless of restrictions. So if the options above are beyond the pale, they could always make the characters elsewhere, wait until they're three days old to be eligible, and then go this route.
