Well, there's always bound to be someone that can't take a hint at what they've done wrong the second time, which really tries my patience. It's better to lecture someone about their mistake instead of shutting up about it and wiping the 3rd time and wipe again.
People shouldn't be upset that someone is lecturing a player because that means they're trying to help. I don't care about their ego.

I don't know why you're putting the word "lecture" at such a negative light but it's pretty much the same as helping someone understand the fight.

man I have a whole list of these.
    • tanks who never use defensive cooldowns, so the healers cant dps as much.
    • DRKs who poorly manage their mp, drop darkside, and then forget to turn it back on.
    • healers that don't dps at all and just overheal everyone constantly (WHMs...)
    • getting 2 AST in df and one of them overwrites good cards with trash ones, instead of discarding/royal roading them.
    • dps who never use cooldowns, or only use them on bosses. (BLMs...)
    • dps who never aoe. (BLMs.....)
    • no foe req brds
    • smns who have their pet on sic instead of obey
    • tanks with no provoke. healers with no swiftcast. dps missing really basic cross skills like raging strikes or internal release.

thanks for reading my bad post.

TBH, working in a retail business is pretty much running a dungeon. You serve your fellow human being in helping them obtain the items they need once they've entered the shop. You say hello to them when they enter and you say goodbye to them when they're leaving. :P

Mentors who, rather than give you a chance, attempt to kick you for making a mistake. Like, you're a mentor, f- off if you don't want to do your job.
Also, probably "ranged who stand up the bosses rump" .. Like, you're ranged, why are you in melee range with me and the other non-ranged DPS? I've never played another MMO where the ranged don't use their distance based abilities to their advantage.

Depends on the boss, sometimes this is the smarter move.

Really all of these can be summed up to a player who is simply less skilled. This is how skill is measured in a game like an MMO. Decision making, positioning, understanding. Its easy to spot a player who is pretty capable based on these characteristics, no matter the role they are playing. Tanks are the easiest to spot because of their role, and the fact that they dictate fights and kill speed more than anyone else. My biggest pet peeve are tanks who completely ignore mob positioning, and who have poor situational awareness. How many times have you seen a tank pull mobs just outside of ground AOE placed by a party member, or tank with the mob facing the entire group, or they tank mobs in a spot where its difficult for mnk, drg, nin etc to get their positional damage in. Another pet peeve with tanks is the total lack of defensive cooldown usage. I run into tanks often who completely ignore half of their abilities. I often ask in group chat when I notice they are never using their cooldowns, and some of the answers I get are comical. As someone who main tanks a lot I almost always have my camera positioned to watch the entire battlefield. I will constantly adjust mob placement if need be. If im in a tight area and I have a mnk, nin, drg who I know need space behind and on the flank of mobs, I position accordingly. If its a big pull of trash, I drag the mobs in such a way to make them as tight as possible to fit inside ground aoes, I also try to make sure all the mobs are facing one direction so positional damage is still easy. If its a boss fight where the boss is having to be moved a lot, I stay mindful of where every member of the party is at all times, and position the boss accordingly. If I notice the healer struggling, for whatever reason, I plan my cooldown usage to maximize efficiency and make their life easier. I make use of every single ability in the paladin action tree. There are little nuances that happen in every fight, and you can often notice a player who "gets it" and players who dont really have it.

You can make a list of common failures for all roles. If its someone in my fc I will try to engage failures constructively, and get them to think about things differently. If they arent using their cooldowns, I explain why its important to do so. I try to explain the "big picture", that by you being efficient, it makes the whole group more efficient.

I don't think anyone(with exception to maybe one person) actually takes any offence to the fact; it's simply something that is noticed but forgotten about right after a run. The fact that is happens so frequently is what is most bizarre I think. I imagine it's a bit akin to that of a culture shock, you'd almost certainly noticed if someone didn't say "please" or "thank you" for example. Would you say nothing to a cashier in a small shop? If so then consider me equally surprised, it's just something that strikes people as odd. They're your teammates whether you like it or not, so they're not equivocal to a random stranger you sit next to on a bus and have literally 0 association with whatsoever. Everyone seems to be on the same page about not really wanting to strike up conversation or anything - in fact, I'd be a little jarred by it even though I know they only have good intentions - but not saying hello or "o/" or so much as emoting just comes across as refusing to acknowledge people because it's apparently too much effort to do so, and that's what seems peculiarly rude to some people.

Contrastingly, I don't really care how good or bad you are. Doing large pulls and finishing a dungeon in a timely manner is not impressive to me, it's simply playing your role to the best of your ability given your current mood and mental state at the time. I'm not particularly interested in giving anyone a mental ?/10 rating by the end of the run. If you can muster up a friendly "hello" and "goodbye/thank you", two simple phrases at some point throughout an entire twenty-minute+ period then consider my attention earned. An unfortunately low standard but that's how things are.

PLD in a dungeon means a slow enough run as is without them stopping to do the healer's job.
