I wouldn't do anything, because I don't get my feelings hurt over trivial crap.

Depends on the amount of profanity and if it's blatant. If it's excessively vulgar or derogatory in the slightest bit then yes I report without even thinking about it.
Sounds good.
LOL. Yeah inside joke or specific language joke are understandable. For me, as long as it’s not blatantly or explicitly profane, I can ignore or put up with it. I might even not realize it, even. Like your gaebolg pun, I can guess what word gae is a pun to, but only because you pointed it out, while I have no idea what bolg could refer to. However, I get the joke right now because you explained. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to understand or even be close to guess correctly where that Retainer’s name is from.Unless its racist or used as a personal insult I would just laugh and walk away. Hell dude on my server is named Frito Dick(in another language) and I laugh and Ho about my duties.
Sometimes it could be an inside joke like my friend's retainer named Keithsgaebolg which is a pun at me from FFXI when I begged him to help me get a gaebolg in which he replied "I usually don't go that way but the wife isn't home soooo..."
Damnit my phone discovered and spilled my secret!
Thanks. It’s heartwarming to see someone who disagrees with the action (report) or would not take the action (report) if it were them, yet respects and understands why other people might find it offensive and might want to report.
Blacklisting sounds wonderful. I think I’ll do so IF he keeps presenting himself in my sight. However, I still have yet to see this character with my own eyes, either by character graphic or by chat log. (I might find it disturbing to see the person’s name popping up in my chat log repeatedly if he spams some shout, because on my screen I would see “Muthfecka Dickhead” over and over again, due to my perception toward the word’s meaning, which might not be accurate if the person wasn’t intending his name to mean this.)Simple. I blacklist them and move on (though I do consider anyone an idiot that uses stupid names in the first place and it is my right of association to NOT associate with such persons). It's none of my concern if anyone is breaking the rules unless they're actually doing something to realistically put them ahead of me or coercing someone. Just like in the real world, I couldn't care less if you're breaking the law unless you're using coercion~because the chances are always going to be that the law shouldn't exist to begin with.
Nope. I’m afraid you haven’t read all my information. I am not pissed off in any way. Was just trying to gather opinions from many people of different mindsets. Can you just let people have their fun? How can someones name really piss you off that much?
I mean shoot, there was a thread on these forums with funny names. And you want to make someone else change theirs? I don't like your name Knighthill. You have two words in your last name and it is really innapropriate.... really now, just let people play. You know damn well it is making other people laugh. Geeez a thread about this.
Sorry you don’t like my last name, but in all honesty it is not a profanity, not even close to any pun of one, at least to my knowledge. Also, if you think the words “Muthfecka Dickhead” are funny, then we don’t share the same humour. I apologize again if me not sharing the same humour as you pisses you off that much.
Pardon? I am confused.
But thanks for letting me know you would laugh. I would laugh at names too if I find it funny. Like, for example, one Lalafell on my server whose name is “Stink Puppy” and someone named “Rob Anybody.” Was really hilarious to see those walking around.
Maybe that’s why no one has the exact same name and surname combination that matches with, for example, Kain Highwind? >> SEARCH RESULTS FROM LODESTONE <<
Matching just one part of the character names is, in my opinion, perfectly fine because it’s not an identical copy of SE’s character which would be leading to whatever issue you’re stating (I think it’s intellectual property related). Not to mention that one name alone (either a first name or a last name) has a very high possibility of being not unique. Take “Valentine” as example. How many people out there are having this as their actual family name? It is not exclusive to SE.
Also, my question is about vulgar words, though. So it does not go by the same standard. Like, for example, the word Fuckk would still read “Fuck” and would be seen as profane for any normal person (who knows the meaning of the word). Whereas those people are still having their names (varieties of Kain Highwind) so it’s safe to assume that GMs are not seeing those as breaking the rules. Or, no one has reported them yet. Or, people reported but the case was dismissed.
I see clearly what you’re saying with those examples. Perfect examples. Yeah it’s sad how people would do that and think they could get away with it. I hope people would use their creativity in a more creative way, instead of insisting of using profanity, yet trying to conceal their vulgarism.Probably depends on the name. There are probably more times where someone's doing it to be a smart-ass than they are being genuine to their real name.

You know what you're doing. You can have your laugh and know someday, you're gonna get reported, and a GM or some such could offer you the name change.
I don’t get Kinblomee but yeah Meatpopsicle could be referring to profanity.

Why is chinese or korean weird?Hi all.
Today I found myself in a big dilemma.
Friends in my Linkshell have been pointing out and laughing at a character's name of someone on my server. The first name sounds so much like the full form of insult word Mofo (but, like, kiddie pronunciation, you know, strong lisp). And their last name....pronounces exactly like a word in my language which would directly translate into "d**k head."
My brain keeps debating to itself back and forth.
Report it because it's bad!
No, it might be some weird language, like Chinese or Korean!
But it's hard to have such coincidence. He must have done it on purpose!
But what if he's just a foreigner who was using his language's name? Reporting on him would be mean.
First name really, really looks super suspicious, he must have meant mofo.
Maybe it has its own meaning in his language. Me not knowing it, or it sounding similar to other languages' obnoxious word doesn't mean it doesn't exist in his language.
It's not good to let him walking around with that name, it will humiliate my country.
But if I don't tell or don't translate it to anyone, other people will never know what it means!
So I can't decide what to do.
I would probably try to forget about him and do nothing. It would be a bad bully to report him based on my assumption alone.
But out of curiosity, have anyone around here experienced such unsure moment? Also, I wonder what would happen to a person whose name is reported to be inappropriate. Force-change of name?
I heard stories from FFXI where people who got reported for inappropriate name was forced to delete his character and start over again. It's.....too....harsh, I think? But at the same time I also heard stories of people who made rude name and was caught, then was given a chance to rename their character.

I tried to shorten the name of my thread but it wouldn't show up as changed in the index page. Eeep! ><
i dont mind offensive names i think ppl who report them are being crybabies. if it bothers you that much you are overly sensative and need to man up and as far as americans being the ones who report these thing F@#$you to that poster quit being a hater
I saw 2 replies which I feel need an urgent response. So here goes;
I'm sorry I used the confusing wording. I meant weird as in strange, or more precisely "unfamiliar." Because I have no knowledge in the language, and thus there is a possibility of their words, when transcribed into English writing, that might match (or being similar) with English profanity or match (exactly) with my own language's profanity.
This is a big deal.
Sorry but seeing a offensive and in bad taste name bothers me, people need to stop being childish when making their names for their characters. I can not see how anyone can look at an MMORPG and say, "oh I will be playing this game for multiple years... let me call myself Small Package or Big Member"..... or things like that. Save those names for FPS games please -.-
I've seen so many people with muddbutton in the last name, I don't even care.
This is a nanny state post.
