People are a product of society, that is to say, the person we become is directly influenced by society. Society is composed of the following institutions; Religion, education, government, media, family and economy. So your personal experiences and preferences are directly influenced by society. Your family try's to teach you to uphold certain values they feel are important as does your affiliation (or lack of) to a specific religion. Anything we experience falls under these institutions and our ideas and behavior are shaped by the experiences we have.
Those words you omit have been socially constructed to be "offensive". Not every society is the same, and some words you find offensive may not be offensive to everyone and vice versa.
Here are some real life name examples (that I have come across) that consist, or sound like "offensive" words:
Dick is used as a first name for a man.
Boner is the last name of a person I have met.
My 8th grade math teacher had the last name of Gaylord.
So if a man has the name of Dick Boner, who am I to demand he change his name because I find those words to be offensive?
LMAO... this is terrific.
I wish I could name change to Gaylord Focker (Meet the Parents).
I've met people with the last name Gay, Faygot, and Dick... guess they would have to change their names.Damn you society!
Some societies chose their own name (read native american cultures).Except this person's real name isn't part of this Virtual World. ie a world where SE makes the rules and Free Speech does not apply. You also choose your own name, it's not chosen for you at or near birth. I understand the point you're trying to make, but that's not all there is to it.
22 pages of PC nonsense.
Also... Richard Boner would be against this thread getting even longer, if only flaccidly. hahahahaha... ahhh.. oh wait, I'm offended, how dare you good sir, I shan't sleep a wink tonight for I have been scarred by your ungentlemanly vulgar language. Now excuse me while I politely skip off into the sunset.
yeah, and i'm really not kidding about those. My cousin works with a man who's first name is Gay as well.
Ah I'm also quite offended I shad see you nth the twelfth hour to skip merrily into the sunset, but in opposing directions.22 pages of PC nonsense.

ps. I'm having wieners and buns for dinner! Does anyone want to come over and have a taste of my wiener? My hot meat will taste lovely inside your buns if you happen to bring your own. And if you care to bring your own, we can both enjoy each others smoked meats.
RemVye I would love to visit and have a wiener in my buns. That sounds most delightful. Perhaps I might return the favour at a later date and invite you over for some of my delicious Mexican cooking. Fish tacos and to round out the meal perhaps large plump melons? They're quite sweet. I'm sorry I don't have anything other than a jug to serve the juice and water in though. If you bring your own jug though we can have two big jugs in which to serve refreshments.Ah I'm also quite offended I shad see you nth the twelfth hour to skip merrily into the sunset, but in opposing directions.

Looking forward to your wieners,

Those are two excellent posts Aleczan. The truth is, in America, it wasn't that much different up until recently. Even now, although it has relaxed a lot, it's still not as bad as what you encounter here online, depending on where you go... at least not yet.
I completely agree that people go from one extreme to the other. But I think most are refering to words that are accepted and even by definition vulgar. "Black Dude" is taken by some to be racist (not me unless I saw it in some particular context), but s**t, is a known and indesputible one, by our definition as of today. In the first case, personally I'd take a complaint against it to be frivolous and dismiss it, but in the second, that would easily fall under the guidelines. Things like this are why we have GM's to decide, and I think they'd be fair.
Also, we are talking about public names, and maybe public speaking. What you say privately to each other, I don't think anyone disputes being able to say what you want. Like minds tend to seek each other out, it's up to us to find people with similiar tastes and interests, and even speaking habits or lack thereof.
Which makes for all the more reason to enforce the guidelines. But really, it's in a companies best interest, in the long run. If rudeness takes over a game, people don't want to play it. The general public of people who show curtesy to each other, shouldn't have to have their game ruined by a few who can't seem to get it.
