so is he trying to say Americans are too politically correct. if so i can agree with that. i am an American and i hate having to hold my tongue for fear of offending someone. everyone here is worried about hurting someones feelings even if it means holding back the truth. What i cant agree with is that we are the only country like this cause i have not lived in every country so i would have no way to know. So if you believe in stereotyping people based on were they live, go for it.

Edit: i just wanted to add a little something for people who think hey can group all American together. America is made of of 50 states each one being as different as the next. what we eat in one state people have never heard of in another. IN some states religion plays an important part in life and others not so much. Religions even vary from state to state. For anyone who thinks they know anything about America they should realize that the people here are all very different based on region.

Agreed. People who think they automatically deserve respect just for existing, no. I won't disrespect you either, but until you prove, not intentionally of course, if you deserve it or not, I'll withhold it. And before anyone feels they have to please me to earn my respect, that's no true either. If I see your normal self worthy of respect, then you get it.

Like the term "respect your elders".... Only if they are deserving of it in my eyes. And it doesn't take much either.

Really, so an entire culture is "doing it wrong" according to you? In Mexican culture, people have respect, and are respected the moment you meet them. There is no reason why they should "earn" a person's respect. The only thing that is earned, is the loss of respect.

This is partially true.
Everyone should respect another person and their opinions to a certain degree. Now, people lose and gain respect based on their actions. You shouldn't judge another before you know them. If you find that they are disrespectful of you or someone else, then you lose respect of them (Or rather, I hope you would) and if they do nice things and respect others than they deserve more respect.

It's normal to judge someone, even without knowing them. If I see someone on the street i've never seen before, i'll make a judgement on the spot about him based on how he looks, how he walks, what he's doing and many other things. That's very normal. People telling me not to judge, are basically telling me not to think. Now this isn't a permanent thing either, if I see that person more and he does different things that would make that original judgement wrong, then it changes.

Also, I respect no one that I have never met, don't know, whatever. But I also don't disrespect them either.
