    A plan to fix enmity?

    Hello,

I searched for quite a while to see if this was talked about, but most of the posts were from prior to 1.19, or were only talked about on the job boards. The only two abilities that actual seem to generate enough enmity are war drum and warmonger. Provoke, taunt, and disorient (either 1 or 2) barely seem to generate any enmity at all. I'm probably used to Provoke, like FFXI style, where its spike hate.

For instance, if a Conj used Curaga even after the tank has built up enmity/hate, he instantly looses hate, and cannot pull hate off a situation like that with provoke/taunt/disorient. I've even fired off simultaneous provoke, then taunt, then disorient; still not taking hate. The only practical means is using either war drum or war monger; though there cool downs are far longer than provoke/taunt/disorient. Most camps even as low as 20s have at least 3 enemies that will engage you at the same time from linking.

Later on with higher lvls, that number increases steadly making AOE hate/enmity moves a necessity. So far right now gladiator has absolutely no way to compete with Marauder in terms of holding enmity/hate. Even against a single target, a Marauder can easily steal hate away from a gladiator with the usual DPS moves and enmity/hate moves.

    It was talked about here:

The other thing I wanted to bring up is alot of Gladiator abilities that are either mislabeled or are not working the way they are supposed to. One of the main ones I noticed doing absolutely nothing is Rage of Halone. It says

"Halone guides your weapon, delivering a fivefold attack and dealing piercing damage. Increases attack power in proportion to the difference between your maximum and current HP."

It does not change in attack power proportion to your life what so ever.

A long list of shield skills all list:

"Increases defense against frontal attacks", unless the character screen is lying it doesn't boost your defense using: Aegis Boon 1 or 2, out maneuver.

The solution to enmity/hate is either give gladiator enmity/hate with other moves like sentinel, rampart, or any other self targeting class ability. This way no AOE move is involved and instead the action of a gladiator simply creates enmity against any mob that the party is engaged with. So either change existing abilities to help balance enmity, or you mine as well give gladiator the same DPS output as all the other damage dealing jobs. After all the only real tank in 1.19 is a Marauder.

Just to sort out some errors, the shield skills only work if you actually do a block, they are useless if you dont block. Tanking on gladiator is also a lot harder than on marauder since you need to depend on vokes a lot. Now for your cure problem use accomplice on tha mage and hit war drum, should get you to blinking red.

Great what I typed got deleted...

If what your saying is, you only get an increase in frontal defense when you block. Then perhaps they should change it to say that.

As for tanking on gladiator, its not the fact that its harder or easier that bothers me about tanking on it. My problem is the only decent AOE enmity ability takes 30 seconds, where as MRD can spam any of their AOE ws (and doesn't require cross class abilities to do basic tanking). The current way the game has gone, the way MRD tanks has set the standard. As in we fight multiple enemies at the same time, and require an ability to hold hate down against them.

If Gladiators class is to not do damage, but to take as little damage as possible from enemies; we need a MAJOR means of attracting the enemy. War drum with a 30 second cool down isnt enough to do this, and does not generate anywhere near as much enmity as MRDS Storm's Path. And in the mean time, MRD can use other abilities as well to create even more massive hate. Aside from using Curaga as an example, you have CONJ or THM's that are AOE nuking to hold hate from. The moment you use accomplice, you retain hate, but loose it as soon as the nuke or AOE DD comes again you loose it.

(And by the way in order to be a decent gladiator I had to level up MRD parallel to GLD, so I've seen first hand how it works on MRD)

You can combine cadence with circle slash for Aoe hate, can also increase the hate with raging strike or ferocity and bloodbath. Also self healing works nice, second wind 2 or 1 for that matter.

An enmity aura would be cool. Maybe for Paladin.

use cadence then use an aoe WS right after. Cadence increases the enmity for your next action so using it with an aoe ws is pretty effective. i set cadence right next to my circle slash on my bar

The problem then becomes Gladiator TP build being way slower than Marauder TP build. This is pretty much the #1 thing I hope they fix between class ability rebalance, and adding Paladin to the job system.

Hopefully this will be fixed in 1.20. It is silly that I cast one cure spell and the mobs all going after me...

GLD is apparently supossed to be main tank in this game and does not have any AOE provoke or means to get hate when mobs attack in groups >.> Provoke, Flash etc worked in XI because we were fighting single target mobs...now in XIV everything loves to come in groups so I don't understand why there is no AOE voke or better enmity balance...

I always end up tanking on my mage jobs...:/
