Guess you're lying there, Lan! That link must be an elaborate ruse. The Aether Current Locations were changes in patch 3.3 to make the more easily accessible.
[3.0] The location of aether currents in all areas have been adjusted.
Aether currents will now be placed in locations more easily accessed when progressing through main scenario and sidequests.

They changed them because many couldn't be asked to explore for them. Same reason why there's no more Broom quests and the Moogle Quests being nerfed to the ground.
This is an interesting statement, as I can see it being used by folks both in favor of and against the new Aether current placement.
For players against the move: "It forced players to explore the new zones. It's the last time they're going to ever bother even looking at some of this beautiful scenery, so it really is a good thing for new players to have to find their way around, at least once."
For players for the move "It forced players to explore the new zones. Finding those Aether currents was such a bloody waste of time. How are new players supposed to book it to endgame when there's all this junk in the way?"
Personally, I enjoyed seeking out the Aether currents in weird places, even if I wound up having to look a couple of them up. It's kind of sad that new players will be denied this challenge.
The thing is just that is didn't force anyone to explore at all... I just went around with a map from the great onlines and checked them all off. And if you don't even want to do that, you can just ask someone to take you there. Someone once paid me 700k Gil to unlock them for their alt by flying them to the locations so they don't have to search or even walk themselves.
For me (and I know I'm completely alone on this), this change is destroying my buisness, as I don't have any idea where the new currents are, and can no longer take people there. Not even the ones I don't charge for it. We had it easy enough, and people are already complaining about there not being enough content, now the whole aether current system is only useful to abalanthia since it's basically two zones you are not supposed to travel around between when you enter teh first one.
dank meme
Exploration should be because you like it, not because flying is locked behind it.I am fully aware they moved them, this is the 6th character I have leveled to 60. My question to SE is why? What was the point of moving them? It forced players to explore the new zones. After continuing through 8 of 10 were moved and I wasted time because in NO patch notes did it say oh by the way we moved aether currents to make it even easier for new people.
I didn't take any notice of the zone while I was looking for the currents. Now once I unlocked flying in the zone I had a look around to complete the map. But too be honest as much as the zones look nice that's it.The zones actually play a minimal amount in the game, as it is all Duty Finder and instance content. Majority oof players are rushing through zones so they can actually unlock content.
Now if SE decided to start actually giving us some decent content that is not fetch quests or FATE grinds in open areas then yes maybe they would be worth exploring.
Also I didn't need an additional option to explore pre Aether Current we had Fishing, Mining, Gathering, Grinding FATES, Unlocking Teleport, Side quests, completing map and Sightseeing to name a few.
So can you tell me why we needed an additional option to explore the area?

Don't worry in 4.0 all currents will be unlocked and all 4.0 zones won't need any limitations to fly or swim(possibly). Please look forward to it!
I'm leveling an alt to refresh myself on the early story bits. I'm more disappointed with the maps filling out the moment you enter the zone.
This was a sad day. Wandering around, trying to find your way to the next obscured map portion and revealing everything bit by bit was fun, for me anyway! Now, you enter a new zone and bam, here's your map. It also means that, in the future, SE won't be able to spring surprise terrain features on us unless they deliberately omit them from the maps. Like, betcha didn't know there was a CASTLE behind this mountain! Actually yeah, I did know, it's right there on the map.
If there was any issue with the previous map process, it was the whole deal with how revealing map pieces awarded you exp, and that exp reward was larger the higher level you were. It made folks reluctant to explore, because they wanted to save that map exp for when they were higher levels. We don't nee mechanics that discourage exploration!
I'll will admit that the Diadem map was pretty annoying, even with my love of exploration. Having to track down all those tiny chunks of map where the starting islands were. Blargh.
