The RaF and Mentor Mount are still available to get without the shop.
15 years old and still kicking, has still a sub, AND remains to have the best PvP idea yet.

Its SOOOOOO funny to see people complain over this, its optional people get over it, either spend the money or stop complaining
This is more like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet (e.g. Hometown buffet). You pay your ~$12 entry, and then they have off to the side this cake that you can only get by purchasing it for an extra $30. Wouldn't sit well with a lot of peopleYou seem to think that everything that´s behind a paywall would have been otherwise put into the game in another fashion when the truth is that without the extra profit, it may simply never have been made to begin with.
If i go to a restaurant and halfway thru my meal, my waitress announces that for only 1$ more i can have an extra dessert, i cannot accuse them of scamming me out of a dessert piece, because that dessert would have never been offered to me to begin with, if the offer had not been in place.
They never scammed me out of a dessert, they offered an EXTRA ONE for a price.
This is the same.
Only this is not an "all you can eat buffet", that´s precisely the problem.
This is an ASSUMPTION that you made upon entering the restaurant, because you saw a table with many different foodstuffs being offered, but nowhere in the contract it says it´s an all you can eat.

Kinda like paying for booze at a buffet? I'm okay with that. I understand that's not included in my purchase, it's an optional item.
A mentor stole my house, slapped me across the face, and raised my ping from 15 to 30. Literally unplayable.

Funny you mention that. There is an all-you-can-eat pizzeria buffet in my town that offers desserts and coffee for an extra fee. I've never seen anyone complaining that they can't afford it and that therefore the pizzeria should not offer desserts for any other customer either.

I'm really not defending the restaurant analogy. My original reply, which you quoted, was to give a slightly more accurate example instead of the poor example that was provided by the previous poster. MMOs are not a restaurant. They are also not a theater. They are their own beast, and this company in the past has managed to make an MMO that included all items in your sub (not including expansions / promotions as those are obviously different as well).Funny you mention that. I get that times change. Perhaps this is the new way for subscription games, but I can still have the opinion that it is completely wrong.

Another metaphor would be buying a book for $14.99 you finish reading that book only to reach the end and learn that there's an Epilogue available for an additional $30. You don't need the Epilogue, you have the whole main story right there, but then you get to wondering. 'What the heck is in that Epilogue that makes it worth twice the cost of the actual book?!' Some people just cave in and buy it.
Honestly, I probably would have bought the thing myself, if it wasn't for the $30 price tag. (I haven't bought a single mount yet, but that one speaks to my sense of humor and thus draws me unlike the other mounts.) It is sad though, to date, Thornemarch is the only extreme trial without a mount. Such a missed opportunity.
SE wants to see how far they can push the players. Slowly but surely they will win the war of atrition.
Why not just add this to your already profitable subscription service? Because people will pay regardless. It's just sad that the player base is responsible for this if we weren't all just willing to bend over and accept these practices we might be enjoying this stuff as added value to our subscription.
I'm unsure how anyone can actually defend this as a consumer.

They already add content that is meaningful, and this is all optional items, this adds nothing to the gameplay, and if people want a 2 seater mount they can go do the 2000 mentor roulettes or recruitment campaign, don't make this sound like it is something that you cannot get through a particular part of the game withoutSE wants to see how far they can push the players. Slowly but surely they will win the war of atrition.
