I grew up eating peanut butter and mayonnaise on toast. I think it's delicious, but just about everyone I have shared this with finds it repulsive. I grew up with it, so it's normal. Perhaps if others grew up eating it, they'd think it was normal as well. Perhaps I would hate it had I not grown up with it.

Do you think that's incredibly far fetched or insulting? This is the exact thinking that I was using in my comment from before. People are more accepting of things if they've never known any different. That is all. It's not a matter of being ignorant, it's just keeping with what is normal to you.
