Customization = more ways for baddies to be bad.

15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
I would be perfectly happy with this. Tanaka had a lot of great ideas; unfortunately, he seemed to only have enough time to implement partially. If he'd been given the extra year to work on the game that's been given to Yoshi, I'm positive we would see results just as drastic as we're seeing now.
Nothing wrong with most of the ideas with exceptions of course. But he couldn't prioritize and failed to develop the game efficiently and according to modern standards, and the aforementioned exceptions were pretty huge fuck-ups as well. Putting the blame on someone else would be in denial.
Can someone dive into the datafiles and find the equations for how stats work so we can at least have useful information for allocating stats since SE won't tell us everything.
He decided to use a graphics system that would not last in the long run. While some ideas were neat on paper, he executed them poorly, deciding that the best way to experience FFXIV was to "limit" how much you could enjoy it a day. You can experience lifeless guildleve events every 48 hours, you can only level a class to a certain extent before surplus, and so on.I would be perfectly happy with this. I love Tanaka, but even with a years time, these same flaws would be in the game. Going half ass on areas that clearly were not rushed, but poorly programmed in was bad on their part. It showed that they cared more about looking pretty than being efficient. He said he was taking aspect of other MMO's into the game, guess what he meant was the worst aspects of other games.
However he did good at where Tanaka is actually good at, producing "some" qualities you would find in an offline FF.
It would seem Crystal Tools is really what landed the whole game in trouble. It took too long to complete, and it didn't work well as the foundation for an MMO. It was all downhill from there, since there wasn't enough time for everything else, and what they could make in time was too bloated to work efficiently.
However, on the subject of point allocation, letting people assign hundreds of points worth of attributes is clearly not reasonable. I don't think the return of that much customization would work or is necessary. The game already auto-allocates stats by class appropriately.
What would be nice to see is point allocation as layer of customization that would present options for upcoming situations, but wouldn't commit you to holding on to those stats for the long term. Obviously, most people will opt for more damage most of the time, but sometimes they might want more evasion, more health, better DoTs, etc. You can already adapt your class through the abilities and gear you set, but this can be one more thing that enhances that preparation.

Bringing back the merit system would be a good way to bring allocation back.
Why are you taking it offensively? I was merely asking did they state this or was this an opinion. It's really hard to tell, but judging from your response it is your personal opinion.Ohh yeah they are going to put things back as it was they like to work without reason changing the stat system....
You really need to pay attention of what theyre doing, why should they change the stat system?(yep because it was unbalance) so they got rid of all the free will on stats and said that they were going to implement the stat allocation later but without changing base stats, read the letters.
i never tought i could find someone that clueless, im gonna say it again so you dont miss this, they dont work for nothing, they did that as many of us know to have a base for every class, no more conjurers with 250 vit and 5mind and 5 int.....
Actually, although I did quit for a while, I remember talks of the removal of physical levels, and the stat allocation was removed along with it,not because of in-balancing issues. They were retooling stats as a whole also we no longer had physical levels, and allocation was directly tied to that. What are you going on about? You seem very butthurt for no goddamn reason.
You must also not be very good at the game as you think a conjurer with 250 vit, 5 mind and 5 int is overpowered lol.

the system wasnt removed due to complaints or difficulty in balancing.
it was literally removed temporarily because our stats were overhauled and so they needed to rework the allocation system to go along with it....... NOT because they were having too hard of a time to balance it.
where are you guys getting stat allocation balance issues? the devs never once stated they had too hard of a time balancing stat allocation.
