I don't see why this would be an issue if it was an option, not required.

If there is no memory available to add it to the UI then there cannot be an option for it. It just doesn't work that way. Even if it is optional SE must stay within the limits of the memory available for the UI.

If I could give an example....like this is all just an example because I don't wanna break down every UI element; it would end up too long a list.

Say FFXIV has enough memory for 20 UI elements (probably missing some but just going off top of my head). This includes all the usual stuff: the map, the clock, the duty list, the party list, the HP/MP/TP of party members, the statuses like buffs and debuffs in the party list, your own status buffs and debuffs, the enemy list, the chat box, your EXP, your HP/MP/TP, the quick click menu, the inventory grid, the gil/currency, all the crosshotbars, keyboard hotbars, focus target, and target bar.

If the extra clock takes up more memory than is left available (if any) there would be 21 UI elements, but only enough memory for 20. Now if as you say "it's optional so it should work" the reason why it won't is because SE cannot just allow the game or users to go over the memory limit; the game will crash on the user end and possibly could crash the servers (it depends on their setup). Even if they could allow it so like "oh you can turn this on but you have to turn another UI element off"...they just can't; its not user-friendly at all and you'll get users crashing without knowing why and then a lot of complaints.

They must account for a user that would make use of all UI elements and the associated memory needed otherwise they'll have peoples games crashing all over the place and possibly crashing servers. Since the game uses the term "hide" for turning the display off for certain UI elements I am going to assume anyway that even if you "hide" a piece of the UI like the map for example its still there just hidden, but it is therefore still using the memory.

This is just how it works for games and computers when it comes to memory. If you try to use more than is available it just doesn't work and it can be difficult to increase it due to hardware limitations, but that's just a reason why they might not have added this or overlooked it for now. I just know they have memory availability problems with the UI due to the TP bar implementation issues they had and having to relocate certain elements from the UI memory in order to make space. But anyway I am totally for this idea as I have actually thought about this before that I would like to see the Eorzea time and the Local time so I hope eventually they can add it. I just added some extra info to explain that it might not be that simple for them.

Anyway I hope I wrote it well enough to help explain what I meant sorry if it is bad and confusing explanation about to head to bed @.@

Just an example when people wanted to be able to see TP bars of party members they had to remove a piece of the UI, specifically the party buffs, they moved them into the Party Menu instead of being on the UI. This was because they could not add the TP bars without removing something due to memory limitations; there just wasn't enough space.

So it is possible there might be memory space issues, but that's just a possibility and would make it not as easy as that to add.

Anyway I agree with the idea o/ it would definitely be convenient if they are able to add it.
    PS3 Limitations!

    I had to say it....

    Now, onto relevant post...
There kind of already is an Eorzean time clock on the hud right now.

If you look at your minimap/compass, there's a sun icon that circles around it as the day goes by.
That icon matches up with an analog clock representation of the Eorzean hour in game.

It is possible now. Go to Character Configuration. Select UI settings. Go to tab HUB. Category: Clock type. One clock type is selected by default, but you can select multiple clocks. When clicking on Apply, multiple clocks are displayed at your screen. I hope this helps!
