Perhaps instead place the vendor in the waiting room, and you can buy the pomanders there in special packages in your inventory that you can open in the next section, but when you leave for the surface the wood wailers store the packages for you and the currency vanishes without the energies of the palace of the dead.

This way a person can "prepare" for a solo run attempt. Or come into a matched party with some pomanders to use to make the initial part of the run easier. You can also have the vendor sell special pomanders not found as normal dungeon drops. Such as one that removes traps from silver chests, or prevents pox from afflicting the party for 10 min.
