Non-Dragoon Dragon Companion

For years I played DRG in FFXI in spite of my distaste for the history of Dragoon in the FF series and the polearm weapon being the main weapon despite the fact it's a symbol of dragon killing, not dragon companionship. Why? Because of the Wyvern, that's it (and without the wyvern or shortening of Call Wyvern, I'd either never have played XI or quit eventually). It had always made more sense to me for a job like Dark Knight, or a "Sorceror"-esque class/job to be able to summon a dragon or have companionship with dragons since through everything I've read, dragons are at the very least much more related to demons and Demonology (the study of demons, angels, and other mythical orders). Actually, I never even heard of a Dragoon having any relationship whatsoever with dragons until I played a FF game and a PS1 RPG with part of its title sharing that name. I digress though.

Alas, this is where the suggestion itself comes in. Anyone wanting a dragon companion doesn't just want it to be a mount or a Beastmaster pet. There is quite obviously a difference between a mount, pet, and a companion. But quite frankly, it does NOT deserve to be tied in for the Dragoon: both for the sake of the Dragoon job and the sake of the dragon companion itself. It'd make the most sense to tie it into some demon/magic-related job, like Dark Knight or a Sorceror of some sort.

That is, IF you must tie it into one class/job or another. Quite frankly, companionship isn't something that neither can nor should be turned off by the switch of a job or class. So the best thing to do, to have a dragon companion, is to implement it as an actual companion without respect to a job system, much like the Chocobo is planned to become something more than a mount itself. Nor am I talking about just a small wyvern, either, but a true dragon companion.
