Visible cones / radials for AoE moves, please.

    Hi!

I seem to recall this being brought up (and flamed to oblivion as making the game 'easymode') way earlier on, but - would it be possible, perhaps in 2.0 if not sooner, to allow a toggle in the UI to actually show the areas that will be affected by a conal or radial AoE?

The game as it is now is highly contingent on linking mechanics, positioning systems, and many vs. many style gameplay, which makes it even -more- important to have a perfect handle on what exactly you're catching in your AoE. I've taken THM to 26 long before 1.19 and then again to 37 so far on a new character post-1.19, so by now I actually have a /fairly/ good idea of where my conal is going to hit, but without any visual indicators of distance other than eyeballing things it's impossible to be sure.

Additionally, when I'm leveling Conjurer I'm extremely unsure of my AoE ranges, and a good friend of mine leveling Thaumaturge currently is getting extremely frustrated with the inability to see exactly what they'll be targeting when they pop off a nuke or a debuff. Inability to see AoE overlays makes the use of AoE spells much more aggravating - it's not even a matter of skill, in most instances, as much as a matter of luck. We simply don't have the information we need in order to play confidently.

This strikes me as the sort of feature that a lot of newcomers to FFXIV would expect the game to offer, as well, so implementing it in FFXIV 2.0 might help the game's impact once the re-release goes live. It might not be strictly -necessary-, and might 'make things easier', but there's such a thing as 'fake difficulty', and I think keeping AoE ranges hidden from the player falls under the category of 'fake difficulty' very definitively.

    Thanks for reading!

I was actually a little surprised that something like this wasn't included with the game's initial release, seeing as how different sizes and shapes for AoEs was (and still is, at the moment) a major defining aspect of the mages. Here's hoping they put it in at some point.

    Same, totally agree.
Since most aspects of the game in 2.0 will be more like WoW (either we like it or not)
I'd like this feature too, visible AoE ground markings.

I played WoW for a few years & as Mage it was very helpful.
(but it didnt stop me from getting myself killed all the time, but still very helpful feature)

    Ninja Edit: - Suggestion
The markings for this dosent have to be WoW-like, the mobs inside the AoE area
could glow a diffrent color or something.

We had a dev response to this subject in a thread I made a long time ago (with helpful graphic)

Haha, man, I didn't even know this was a feature in WoW, I've never played, it just struck me as an obvious Good Idea.

Also, holy crap, didn't know that a dev had actually commented on this. AWESOME to hear, I really hope this makes it in.
