Nah, this game has perfect immersion. I dunno why the OP is so upset.

I completely agree it breaks immersion and I'm not the least happy, but I'll just shrug it off. They're not holding this because of our opinions, so I'll just go on pretending it doesn't exist and hope people don't use the minions all the time.
Immersion? Are you joking OP?
I guess OP has never visited the 13th floor where our characters met the development team, saw concept and artwork for the game on the walls, watched a developer riding a unicorn while his character was playing the game (farming atma's on a tv screen) from within the game itself. I guess the OP never noticed the dragon quest event either.

More tankinis pls! I just came back to the game after 2 years and burst out laughing to see my tank walking around in a leopard print man thong.
"If you're okay with this you are not a real fan, I am!" Ok now you're being childish op, stop.

YoshiP said casters can't wear armor because they have to look like casters, and casters wouldn't look like casters if they were wearing armor. So, he definitely cares about immersion. But snowman / reindeer / moogle / bikini / maid outfit tanks are lore-friendly.
Maybe YOUR casters can't wear armour, but my Dated Haubergeon begs to differ.
Also I'm damn sure at least half the people complaining about "MY IMMMERRRRSSSIIOOOONNN" would be all fine and dandy if this was a Pokemon event. Because for those who don't follow other games, Yokai Watch is basically Pokemon but new and improved. Also makes me chuckle when people assume Yokai Watch is just a kids' show; it's got its' own kids show based on the game, same as Pokemon.
Also like other said, you get rid of the crazy glowy unrealistic weapons, tankinis, and characters dressed up as Minfilia and Nanamo and then we can talk immersion.
Thats two different things though - all those "funny" outfits arent to be taken serious (Surprise!) and thats what makes them okay - they're not really supposed to be lore-friendly, they are their so we can put on a silly costume (or use it for RP-reasons, if you're into that etc.).
"Real" armor on the other hand IS connected to lore and therefor they're sticking to that. Look how your casters CAN wear a certain piece of armor thats more... mmh... knight-like - I'm talking about the veterans rewards ofc, Firions armor. Its a costume and thats pretty clear and thats why casters can wear it.
Might be only me but I feel like the devs are totally allowed to break they're lore-rules from time to time and throw a bit of fun into this game - if they didnt do that we wouldnt see Au Ra as playable races, no male Miqos, a duskwit elezen wouldnt have much fun etc. etc. As long as its limited to only certain items that are clearly marked as "fun"-item (aka being level 1, can be worn by every class/job, having no real stats) or events like this, that are limited to a certain time, I dont see anything wrong with this. Ofc they shouldnt overdo this! But thinking how in three years the only other event that wasnt tied to another FF-game was Dragon Quest (or am I forgetting something...?) I wouldnt say there is a huge risk here...

Except that's not what Yoshi-P said, his words were that they wouldn't allow people to glamour as classes they are not to prevent trolling (that is, a PLD wearing BLM armor pretending to be a DPS, or a THM wearing PLD armor walking into a FATE spamming Flash and Provoke saying "I got this!").
Except that this was announced MONTHS ago during a Live Letter, it was a very big deal, the creator of Youkai Watch was there and asked Yoshi-P some questions.Don't like it's addition myself, it's advertisement content put in place because Pokémon Go is creaming the market.
Honestly, we're talking around in circles, most of us agree that the event is a silly little thing that we're not forced to do, the designs are sort of cartoony and there are those who like them and those who don't. The OP feels it breaks his immersion and no bikini-clad female Au Ra tanking Sastasha with a slab of rock is gonna change his mind, it affects the rest of us as much as my Warrior of Light changing race and genders every 3 months affects him. The reason most of us got riled up about it was the "no true scotsman" fallacy about it, that essentialy insults every player that likes to do these events or doesn't think like him.
Also, someone mentioned "2 months of Fate grind" that I really don't understand where the comment is coming from...
