    So What IS still in Development?

    Remember how prior to A Realm Reborn the Devs would have a listing of what was currently in development, what they were planning to work on in the future, and how they'd gave a rough scope as to implementation and the patch associated with it.

    Now that it's been almost three years since re-launch, we've seen stuff come to fruition and we've seen seeds planted that could definitely grow into something really great with further development. There are also some things that were initially planned that have been up in the air the past couple years which begs the following questions... What is still currently being developed? Which things that were initially planned can we still look forward to? And what's been scrapped all together?

    -Just to name a few I had-
    1.)What's the status of taking Companion Chocobos into dungeons?

    2.)What happened to the concept of Primals roaming the open world and Free Companies battling it out for the right to summon them for a one time instance before being released back into the world?
    -With the way the lore has develop around primals, I wonder if this is still even possible.

    3.)What happened to Muskateer? Did Machinist fill that role or is there still something else in mind for it? I don't think this was ever made clear and technically the Musketeer guild is still in the game.
    -(Remember when Yoshi was asked if there was any news about Muskateer way back when and he just straight up said "NO!" XD )

    4.)Will there still be more to airships and ferry travel?
    -I remember in 1.0 you could actually experience the ferry ride from Limsa to Ul'dah. When Airship Transportation first came into play it was cutscened but the Devs also said that in future updates you'd be able to experience the trip for a sense of immersion. That was the main reason why the whole Idea of FC airships got me excited.

    Some of these questions, not just the ones I've listed, have come up in Live Letters or interviews but we usually end up getting the same answers:

    *We're still looking into it. Please be patient a bit longer.
    *It would be too difficult to develop at this time.
    *We're working on a way to add it so it will make sense form a lore perspective
    * - insert generic/vague response here-

    I appreciate the work the Devs have put into the game, and come Fan Fest we're going to get a plethora of new info, but during dry periods where you're just waiting for content, it's nice to know what's still being developed, what progress has been made on planned content and what's to come.

    Thoughts? What Content have you still been lookin forward to that SE has been tight lipped about over the years?

    In all seriousness, it probably is PS3 limitations among the rather slow combat of FFXIV. Even with Guild Wars 2 being quite a bit faster combat wise, with the ability to self sustain large scale World vs World PvP is still very clunky, fun, but clunky.

    Seriously? PlayStation 2 limited FFXI's possibilities back then in 2002/2003. PlayStation 3 did it again with FFXIV? D:

    It's probably because in the past when they've said about something and it hasn't arrived when expected (or exactly the same as initially described) a large portion of the player base has taken up pitchforks. So it's just safer for them to not give us any information now unless they are 100% certain of something.

    SE very likely have plans/designs of where things are going, but things might come up later to either no longer make them viable or make them take considerably longer than expected... neither reason would matter to most of the player base so from their perspective I honestly think they probably see it as better not say anything rather than something that might later turn out not to be a case.

    Rendering hundreds of players on your screen can be very CPU intensive, and while the PS3's CPU was incredibly powerful back then it's started to show its age for quite some time now. I'd say they could limit the player count significantly and make much smaller maps, but really that's no different from frontlines. If they do cut of PS3 they'd also be cutting off low end PCs from doing such content without FPS drops, so it's a gamble.

    With all the work it would take to develop a massive map it wouldn't be worth it, considering how much the FFXIV community seems to dislike PvP.

    Still haven't had FC ranks increased since 2.0....
    Summoner pet glamour supposedly coming 'soon' (how people are satisfied with the excuse that more summons can't be created is beyond me)
    Figuring out a way to NOT have our companion being considered as a party member? (This seriously didn't sound like it was going to be an issue in development?)
    Figuring out the direction of JOBS since classes dont seem to be a thing anymore (yet still keeping the cross-class system....oddly enough rogue can't share any...but maybe they will in 4.0)
    Passives are nice since we got 0 in 3.0

    5 seems like a good place to stop for now

    The GCD has nothing to do with PS3

    This kind of things always happen in Guild Wars 2 had ideas for some things that ended up being thrown away, same with Wow (thing as dance academy had to leave in Cataclysm)

    Pretty sure 1-3 have been scrapped; 1 is a neat idea that they probably didn't have any idea how to balance into normal parties and probably didn't leave an opening so they could code for it; 2 is a rather grandiose idea and also currently there's like NOTHING IN THE OPEN WORLD TO USE THEM FOR (lolhunts anyone?), in raids or whatever that would make things real weird; 3 yes machinist is pretty much going to be our musketeer because 2 gun jobs would be superfluous the same way that adding thief would be superfluous with ninja.


    For 4, it's probably not a great use of resources to do, considering you're basically making an environment that lasts like 3 minutes but would need to pretty much make a complete small zone for a feature like NO ONE would use except RP'ers. FC airships flying around would be pretty dope, I was pretty disappointed with the glorified retainers we got. If anything it could be a mini game part of the Diadem revamp hopefully, but I kinda doubt they'd casually let us fly it around the open world.

    TL;DR: SE started out with some more grandiose, neat ideas then both underestimated how they could allocate resources to them, and also how to fit them into their very codified, set in stone MMO.
