Doesn't bother me. I still see it on this game and the fact that there is a surname available only means you can have a lot of Sephiroth clones with slight changes into the last name. Sephiroth Cloud, Sephiroth Xiv, Cloud Sephiroth.

If an improved UI requires some players to change their names they're doing something wrong.
Improvements are meant to make the gaming experience better, if it creates more hassles it's not an improvement.

I wish they would ban certain FF related names as well personally, this is abit off topic but I am tired of seeing 100 people run around with Highwind as their surname.

No, i'm sorry, I fail to see how long names in UI are an issue. The longest name there is Romeo Guildenstern (wich I consider a long name, but I've seen longer ones) and it perfectly fits the party UI, also it looks fine over the character's head wich honestly is odd since there are tons of informations over the characters (name, LS, title and company).

I'm a designer myself and I know for basic knowledge that if you wanna improve something you have to create as little hassle as possible, so if the lenght of names is really a problem it's common sense to see if there isn't any other solution that doesn't force ppl to change the name they're already using, because it would be a big hassle.
So IMHO the best solution would be to riarrange the UI to contain all the informations (abbreviate names in party UI, move the company name over/under the character's name, lower the font body).

So no, it's not me afraid of changes, it's just ppl here bitching.

If they take my name away I'm going to be very upset.

If anything they should give the option to people that want it and don't want it.
But I've never seen a name so long that I stop everything that I'm doing and say wtf so.

Same. I want zero changes to the naming system. It's not broke, so don't try to fix it.

This. Not only that, it being the way it is also keeps it quite open so where several people can have the same name, just with a different last name. I would have been devastated if Mudd was taken.

no thanks on the short names. I like the fact that you can have a first name and surname in this game.
