Shorten Names Poll

Personally, I'd like to have an option. Keep the longer names for people that want them. Allow for single names for people that don't.

If nothing else, adjust the chat system so it shows like the first name and perhaps a last initial.

I'm sure this is long lost with Tanaka out of the window, and maybe it has been said in this thread already, but wasn't the original idea supposed to be that you can create one word nicknames for people on your friend list, or something to that effect? I remember it was extremely briefly talked about, or maybe I'm just going insane.

I remember it being talked about too, by both Tanaka and Yoshi.

I don't know how many characters we're allotted but whatever it is now is fine.
Keep the surnames too.

i wouldn't mind if they put a limit on new players names but current players should be able to keep their name(even if i hate /pcmd them)

I think a system using surnames as an optional thing makes more sense than just completely abolishing it all-together. Guild Wars 2 is going to have it, why not XIV 2.0? It just allows more customization. What if my character doesn't even HAVE a last name? What if I just want to use a nickname? Things like that.

My bias towards it is solely based on the fact that I can't think up one nice original name to begin with. Two is just too much for me. I feel sorry for my future children.

There are more than enough name generators and name-related websites out there where this shouldn't even be a problem for anyone.

Mine was a last resort and I'm still not comfortable with it. Oh well.
