Well... there is no chronology. Palace of the Dead does belongs to Heavensward. But, you can do it without completing Tam Tara HM. It only needs to finish Copperbell Mines Normal from ARR and the purchase of Heavensward.

Speaking of Heavensward: Before entering Ishgard, you have to do the whole Main Story from ARR. Isnt it weird, not having Tam Tara HM competed first, BEFORE entering Palace of the Dead?

[2.0][3.0]: These additions and adjustments contain elements that may require the purchase and registration of FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward.

[2.0][3.0] Deep Dungeon - Palace of the Dead has been added.
    Entry Requirements:
    - Disciple of War or Magic level 17
    - Players must first complete the main scenario quest "Into a Copper Hell."

Generally speaking, there is patch chronology... Something added in 2.3 happened after 2.2 and before 2.4... Tam-Tara (Hard) is in 2.3, Palace of the Dead is in 3.35, the fact that you can enter Palace of the Dead so early is a gameplay thing, rather than a lore one, it's there to let new players aren't left out of new content, and to give people the freedom to try out new Jobs with it. That you can enter without doing the dungeon doesn't really mean anything, the Estinien example has already been mentioned, but there's also the Culinarian quests; In both examples you have characters who shouldn't be there, depending on where you are in the MSQ, but both are 2.0 quests, they happen in 2.0, not 2.1 or 2.55 or 3.0... Thus, events beyond 2.0 do not impact them... They've already happened, regardless of whether you've done them yet... I see no reason why Tam-Tara (Hard) and Palace of the Dead would be any different, doesn't Edda (in Palace of the Dead) even directly reference her little tumble at the end of Tam-Tara (Hard)?

If Edda is a primal, then who or what is summoning her? Primals don't come out of thin air.

Can't be a Primal. Blackbosom explodes into the usual purple mist (while Phoenix exploded the Primal way) and Edda disappears into a bright light (not at all like a Primal).

I think this is just a case of someone claiming the (lost) souls of the dead. Since Edda seemed to have some power over the Voidsent, whoever 'claimed' her probably thought it be best to make her the guardian of the Palace (50th floor was apparently overstaying our welcome).

I m not talking about Edda Blackbosom. I was talking about her white-haired ghost ; )

I think we defeated the "real" (brown-haired) Edda in Palace of the Dead. I guess, someone resurrected her body from Tam Tara HM and placed her as a guardian for the 50th floor. We never saw her ghost again, except the 1% chance in Gridania and in that cutscene after Tam Tara HM.

Edda itself maybe? Maybe she summoned it by accident or while falling into the pit. I mean, she did a lot of weird stuff in Tam Tara HM, who knows?

It would imply that she met with the Ascians and was taught how to summon primals, but that's quite a stretch (especially being able to turn into a primal mid fall!) and is unlikely since, as someone said previously, she doesn't disappear in the same way a primal does plus she has no memory of what happened and doesn't seem likely that she consorted with Ascians if her post defeat dialogue in the non English versions is anything to go by.

I wouldn't think too hard about the little discrepancy between white-haired ghost Edda post Tam-Tara HM and Palace Edda. After all the devs just kept expanding her story since we kept asking for more of her (which we will probably continue to do until we get dat dress and maybe a little spooky minion of her)

Edit: plus it's possible that ghost Edda in that scene was just some sort of PTSD hallucination of Paiyo Reiyo, seeing how we/the WoL didn't notice anything weird at that moment

I'm more incline to say the "Ghost Edda" is just a cruel Voidsent...

We don't actually have much in the ways fo an explanation for how Edda got so powerful for Tam-Tara (Hard), but I imagine a Voidsent was involved. If she was possessed in some fashion, that would explain a lot... Odd that the Voidsent didn't seem to have full control, but perhaps it was quite weak (or enjoyed role playing), either way when Edda walks off a cliff... Well, she's dead, time to abandon ship... The Voidsent then opts to haunt Paiyo Reiyo, using a Glamour Prism to appear as Edda... Edda herself actually survived the fall of course, meeting a kind and mysterious wizard, who corrupted her into Edda Blackbosom... We fight and her spirit is released, and the Edda we remember from Lv17 passes on...

I think honestly, this has nothing to do with ascians, but will have to do with Nybeth Obdilord from Tactics Ogre - Let Us Cling Together.

Palace of the Dead was lifted from that game, and this game has already borrowed several elements from Tactics (See: Valerian set from the first Lv 60 dungeons)

In Tactics Ogre, Nybeth was a powerful necromancer, whom had the ability of reviving people in his quest for immortality. His experiments were never moral, and in the process of reviving, turned his subjects into mindless thralls under his complete control.

It was only at the moment of the thrall's demise, that they gained perfect clarity and sanity of who they were as a person before they vanished forever - just like Edda did when we defeated her.

In the story, he flees to the Palace of the Dead, and turns into a Lich, and camps out on the 100th floor of the PotD as the final boss. On the 100th floor, is an altar called The Altar of the Beyond, which is before the gate of the Abyss. He is defeated there - but then the DLC for Tactics Ogre extends Palace of the Dead by another 100 floors.

Yoshi P says the story will continue to Floor 100, and from that point onwards it's an optional challenge ending at Floor 200. This lines up with how it was on Tactics Ogre.
