And it really should have ended at the fall at that. Is there any lore on ghosts? Like, something that explains why Edda is the only such case? Voidsent-dabbling isn't exactly a first, we have the lambs of dalamud, Haukke manor, Mhach, those guys in Amdapor, Xande and his cloud of darkness pact...one would think if they caused this there would be more incidents.
We do have lore on ghosts(bogys/revenants), wights, fomors and similar ashkin, but it's not covered by that. So if anything, I would have hoped for some lore clarification here instead of fanservice. But no... >.>
I too think that the story could had been better. Was it ever confirmed that Edda Blackbossom was a spirit? If not we could always branch into the black Edda being a zombie corpse raised with magics (which can aruge the memory lost) and white Edda being the spirit form. Either way, I still wish it end differently. T-TThat would be a good explanation, but you forget one thing: Her ghost will appear for you in Gridania with a 1% chance. You must then have some kind of PTSD by yourself.
Voidsent cant survive without a body. And why would a Voidsent wants to haunt a lalafell?
I still dont believe, that Edda and her "ghost" is the same person.
To be honest, I dont want that her story will end right at the 50th floor. SE put so much effort in her (and of her companions) backstory, just to give an ending like this. She deserve something better than this. The sequence after Tam Tara HM and her ghost sightings in the great citys are legendary! But all those creepy moments are lost in palace of the dead. Give us creepy Edda back! D:

Oh yeah, that would make the most sense.
Lookit that robe.

While it may be suspicious that Paiyo mentioned seeing Avere's head in his dreams, one must also remember that when the party broke up after Avere's death, Edda was already carrying around his head with her, which Liavinne implored her to get rid of. So, the head in the dream might just be the normal-sized head he remembered Edda carrying around with her.
