    Virus in FFXIV ?

    Hey there,

    So this morning i updated to the latest patch.. and i wanted to play

    I have a shortcut on my taskbar, so i launch it, the moment i try to launch FFXIV i get a report from my Anti Virus program that FFXIVboot.exe contains a virus and removes the file for me.. Suposedly it's a generic virus often used for identity theft;

    ( http://www.avgthreatlabs.com/ww-en/v...generic-virus/ )

    So... should i be concerned that my favorite game now comes with viruses ?

    It's not, it's a false positive. Your antivirus software thinks might be a virus but it doesn't know so it classifies it under that generic virus category. You either need to exclude it from your AntiVirus software or upgrade the software to better software with less false positives

    Agreed. If this was some hacked-together Korean MMO, then perhaps - but there is no way AVG is right on this one. Exclude the file from scans in AVG's settings and play on.

    Just realised it probably triggered because ffxivboot.exe was recently updated in the 3.35 patch and your antivirus software could probably tell the file has changed and it doesn't know why so likely that triggered it's alert/generic virus.

    Definitely change your AV software. I used to swear by AVG until I tried it on a deliberately infected system & it missed even old exploits that should have been in the checker's system for a decade. It did manage to find a lot of false positives though. Now I never use it.
