I agree that it's rude and disrespectful to leave a duty as soon as you join unless it's an emergency, however I don't think Mentor's deserve a longer penalty for doing so.

The terms and conditions for being a Mentor are pretty vague. Some people are also crafting/gathering/PvP mentors. Of course we're expected to know a little about the classes we play and the dungeons we run but we're not obligated each and every time to run people through mechanics, and although it's frowned upon, we can leave if we want to leave.

Before anyone quotes me, I have never left a dungeon unless I've had to, and I'm always helping people whenever I can. I just don't agree with a longer penalty than any other player - we shouldn't be punished more than anyone else purely because we're a Mentor. Especially since emergencies do happen.

I forgot to mention - I've had a lot of people who have either insulted me because I've tried to help, ignored help, or have trolled the duties I have been in. I don't see why I should get a harsher penalty than those people if I wanted to leave because of this.

I think most mentors just doing what they used to do before this system!
Ppl used to fish roulettes will keep doing, ppl used to help ppl will keep doing, too

I believe OP suggestion won't work, increasing penalty,
fishers still can only put their mentor status up right before the last roulette(mentor roulette) of the day.

    I would suggest adding some incentive for mentors never quit for a number of contents(who has never received penalty). ^^;

My main suggestion is temporary revocation of mentor status, not a longer penalty.

The trouble with this system is that there are so many black sheep mentors out there, that they're giving the genuine mentors a really bad rep. With all the negativity out there, it's not hard to see why some nice mentors snap in the end. I can genuinely say, out of all the dungeon runs I've done, most of them snark back because don't-tell-me-how-to-play. I've been vote dismissed for telling the party how to deal with mechanics, called an elitist...etc. Wearing the crown doesn't mean we have to put up with boorish, trollish behaviour. And of course, if we do leave due to such, story is probably going to get turned around about how an elitist mentor won't run with them.

But I guess, in the end, it's the rare lot that thank you for advice that makes it all alright.

I feel there shouldn't be any significant rewards for mentors. I understand that the rewards are there to motivate people and keep them engaged, but in this SE fails to understand their players base, at least those that reside in the NA datacenters. All they've accomplished is to flood the mentor channel with achievement chasing players that wanted a crown next to their name for vanity's sake.

I also think, as soon as they add new symbols like those for roleplayers, PVPers, raiders, what have you, the novelty of the mentor symbol will wear off for the folks who only wear the crown for the novelty.
I still like the suggestion I saw in another thread.

To go with our new player 'sprouts'.
We should have mentor 'watering cans'!

I signed up to be nice to newcomers and help them if needed. But in most of my roulettes i have to deal with people that looks aggressive or something like that, i don't know maybe they play MMO to trashtalk people well... people like that exists too.

I ended up realising that i had more difficult/trashtalking runs than just a nice run with polite people playing for the run, who don't care about wipes and wanna improve themselves and guess what ? I'm not here for the mount (well if i get it, i will enjoy it for sure), a simple "Thank you buddy, appreciate the run/tips" is enough to make me smile and give me the impression that i helped those people.

Speaking from experience, on a logistical level that is not hard, it takes time and effort, but observing play and having a few expected wipes you can direct individual players as to where they are going wrong (BLM, if you stand on the A waymark at that point you won't get hit by that mechanic etc.). At this point it is very doable, but is as difficult as it should be. You are right that an overarching explanation usually isn't enough, but that isn't all that you are doing, you are mentoring, not instructing.

I usually find that ex primals have far less trolls and entitled players than dungeons do as they legitimately don't know the fight and have to ask for help, whereas in a dungeon they can just faceroll and not know their job and the worst that happens is that we are slow.

I tell you what happened to me in SepEX, Wipe for 20 minutes until we decided to take 10 minutes to watch videos on youtube with the result that it ended up killing. The thing is that not only require mechanical know in particular, require also know your character.
