Yea as the title said it all lol, I played the first final fantasy mmo when it came out and tryed two differnt characters and still with both of them I didn't even get to level 20.

Anyways I decided to try again, so I have gotten about level 6 pugilist now and I have to say it is a lot better then before. Now I have a few questions that might help me out, to see if I should keep going with this character or start another one.

    1. Is Siren a good pve server? It didn't show if it was a low and mid population or if it was pve or pvp servers.

    2. So no matter the race I am I can max out all class, jobs, and crafting skills if I so wish or is there a limit?

    3. Is there a transmog like WoW on this game? Where you have your gear but can change it to look like something else. such as if you have full armor gear but make it look like you have monk robs?

    Welcome back!

    1. I'm not sure as I don't do PvP - it's worth noting though that FFXIV is pretty much PvE orientated, with PvP secondary content that is unconnected to the main game itself (it's not open world 1x1 style, but purely team-based in instanced arenas involving the Grand Companies). Most servers would have their PvP focused groups though, but again I'm not sure if Siren has more PvPers than other servers or not. Personally I think most players would be mostly interested in PvE and not PvP, but that is just my own observation, so it's probably wrong.

    2. Yes you can! You're only stuck with your starting class til level 10 - as long as you complete the quests the Guild for your class gives you up to level 10, you will unlock the Armoury System which allows you to change your class at will by simply equipping it's weapon or tool. Once the Armoury System is unlocked you will have to unlock each class manually though by visiting the guild for each class and joining up. But once that is done you can switch to that class at any time by equipping it's weapon or tool. How many you unlock and level is up to you. This page explains all about the Armoury System and levelling classes, with this page explaining about Jobs.

    3. Yes there is, but sadly it's not available til you reach level 50 - it is unlocked by completing a quest called 'A Self Improving Man' that becomes available at level 50 in Mor Dhona. This page explains all about the glamour system in FFXIV and how to use it.

Anyway, I hope this wasn't too confusing for you.

I suggest getting to level 17 on Pugulist(If you want to see monk skills you need to unlock the job @30) and then entering Deep dungeon as you go through it you will get to use all skills up to level 60. This in the long run will save you time leveling a class you may not enjoy.

    1. Siren appears to be a low population server. I have gone stretches of play without seeing a soul. It seems to be a really friendly server though at least at my lower level so far.

Question 2 and 3 were answered well above.

I play odd hours, but if you ever need anything on the Siren server I can help!

    Welcome to the game!

Enkidoh gave some good answers and im going to probly repeat a bit of that info but ill try to give something extra.

    1. So this game only has PvE servers. Some are labled "roleplay", some are labled "legacy", but effectively everything is PvE centric. There is PvP as Enkidoh mentioned, but its basically separated into its own instances and accessed in its own way. As for Siren, i dont play there but it does appear to be a low-mid population server. One thing this game does though is that for a lot of content it emphasizes the data center rather then the server. When you que for a dungeon or other instance, it matches you not just against your server but all the ones in the same building. Siren is in the Aether center, which is one of the highest population(possibly THE highest) that they have. So while you may not see quite as many people, you are still potentially being matched against a large population. Otherwise, youre still pretty early in so you could potentially switch servers and make a new character if you prefer that option(or pay to transfer your existing character to one of the busiest servers).

    2. Effectively there are almost no limits. Your one character(regardless of starting race gender and class) can unlock and level up to 60 all 24 classes currently in the game(13 combat, 8 crafting, 3 gathering). As Enkidoh said, you do need to complete the level 10 quest from your starting class to unlock the system. After that you can go nuts. Now i said there are "effectively almost no limits", which obviously means that some small limit exists somewhere. There are 2 you will come accross if you try to do everything. First limiter: having appropriate gear for 24(and possibly more after the next expansion) classes takes a LOT of inventory space. Getting good gear for multiple classes also takes a lot of time. Now obviously some classes can share, but you need to keep them at similar levels for that to be effective. Second limiter: at the very top of the crafting system(as in, doesnt matter before level 60) there is a "specialist" system that unlocks extra recipes for some classes. You can currently only have 3 of them at a time(you can switch them with a little work, but cant have more then 3 at a given time), so this limits you a little at the highest level of crafting(if thats your thing).

Aside from those considerations, you can do it all on one character.

    3. The system in this game is called the "Glamour" system, and Enkidoh covered it well. Theres also a level 15ish quest in Western Thanalan that unlocks the option to dye some of your gear(not everything can be dyed) different colors - another way to customize your appearance and available much earlier in the game.

I want to say Siren population is probably about mid-ranged. I wouldn't freak out if you see few players in a major city. There are days when crowds are light, and days when it is heavy. Find the Odin, Behemoth, or Svara FATEs and you will see how quickly a massive amount of players will converge. What it does lack in player population though it makes up for with kindness. Just about everyone is friendly and helpful.

I don't PvP so i can't tell you much there, but there is no shortage of players who run PvE content. FFXIV is no different from most MMOs where DPS classes have longer queue times than tanks and healers, but gripes come more from people leaving once in a group rather than having troubles finding them.

You can definitely level everything on one character. The only limit is your inventory space, which once you hit level 50 will explode.

The glamour system is pretty awesome, it does have it's limit though. For instance, something that is specific for MNK can't be glamoured onto something that's specific for WAR. It also goes back to my second response, since inventory can quickly becomes an issue if you glam too much stuff. There's still some tweaks SE can do here to help making the glamour and inventory systems a little more manageable.

Welcome to Eorzea and to Siren! My name is Gemina, send me a /tell if you see me around.

I would think keeping an ear out for hunts would be a better indicator that the FATEs. But I guess also those two cover kinda two different level ranges. (and also I'm on very low pop Mateus, my observations may be biased)

And if you think about it, there are 4 major towns, 2 busy outposts, and 36 seperate housing hubs that people might end up spending their "town time" in, and thats when they arent "in the field" at one of the dozens of quest hubs or dungeons. So of course people will be a little spread out. But the right content will bring them back together like Gemina said. And in my experience, Odin is exactly that sort of content. I also play on a mid-pop server, and even in the middle of the night if he starts wandering the shroud it isnt unusual for 3 or 4 dozen people to show. The last time i was on during primetime and he appeared there may have been 200+ people by the time he fell. So many corpses.
