    Deep Dungeon, Deeper Issues.

Okay, ten points from Gryffindor for the cheesy title--I just couldn't resist!

Greetings, all! So I've been lurking the forums (I'm such a lurker!) and, as always, I see there's a divide in opinions on the new content. Pretty much expected and I'm sure (I hope) the development team’s used to the fact that it's just impossible to please both sides of the fence. And while I wouldn't say I had the time of my life in Deep Dungeon, I can see the potential it has as this is just the beginning.

Surely SE intended for Deep Dungeon to be easily accessible at first. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. And if you want to express that on the forums, you have every right to. This forum is also a platform for us to provide SE feedback, which they seem to be considerate of to some extent (kudos to you, SE). But, surely, there are better ways of providing feedback--far better than calling the content a “mindless face roll”. Could you imagine being one of the devs who’s worked hours on this new content, only to see comments like that? It has to be upsetting, and to some extent, frustrating. This is why I appreciate the “Thank you, SE” posts as I'm sure they do.

This is a great community--it really is. The issue is that we tend to forget how big we are. The FFXIV community stretches far and wide. We have raiders, crafters, roleplayers and people who enjoys all kinds of different content. For all the content you don't like, there's a whole part of the community that loves it. And I don't know about you guys, but I think that's a win, not only for SE, but for all of us. Because it keeps the community alive. All we need now is more respect to go around. For the developers as well as each other.

I agree, theres alot of people who seem to assume that they could do a better job that the developers. Yes they may have some good ideas about what could be done to improve it, but they post so angrily, spewing vitriol as if the fact the content wasnt exactly how they liked it was a personal sleight.

Imagine posting something you worked hard on online, then having people call you idiots or other such names because you didn't do it this certain way?

Granted, I can understand the annoyance given this is content you paid for, BUT there is still such a thing as common decency.

Personally I loved the new dungeon, it was refreshing, and had us coming up with tactics to beat the last ten floors for about 3 hours. We look forward to the addition of more floors in the future, thought the first 40 felt tutorial ish, the last ten was a taste of what future floors could be like. Much harder, and they can only build on that. - So thank you, SE, for giving us this break from the relic grind in a way thats actually fun, and for the continued efforts to make the game enjoyable down the line!

I know this game is made for everyone, not just for me.

If you skim through the discussions though, you can see exactly why some players are discontent with how the content the way it is, including PotD. It's not doing anyone favors if yo uselkectively pick out the vitrol (and likewise, selectively pick out people that praise it without reason).

The playerbase is also big, but that doesn't make you don't consistently make content that fails to fill in for groups that still need something. Specifically the middlegroup people who want challenges that isn't savage, and PotD is anything but (aside from the alleged 200 floors in a future update)

I think PotD is a good thing. I am a dilettante and I have done a very poor job of keeping on top of weapon progression for my main job. This seems like a quick way to catch up. This gives me an option to have some fun with my friends while I get a decent weapon. It also holds me over while I work on my relic. Finally, I like this because I own the fact that I am not a great player. There is no way I would show up to NidEx/SephEX with my little i200 weapon to get carried through the fight; that would just be insulting to everyone else there. With PotD as an option, I can be a responsible player and gear myself well without wasting anyone else's time. If/when I do decide to show up for NidEx/SephEx, I will not be a drag on everyone else there (at least gear wise).

tl;dr of the several ways to get a decent weapon, this seems like the easiest way to do it without a super long grind or inconveniencing better players.

    I agree with Chalbee.

I've just come back from an extended break, so I'm a long way behind in my gear from the current tops. Palace of the Dead is giving me another option to get my classes back up, along with being a dynamic dungeon chock full of things to look out for. It's fun!

For some reason people think that if people say that content is boring it means that it is easy. Being easy is hard is irrelevant to begin fun or boring. Content can be easy but boring, hard but boring, easy but fun, hard and fun.

    People want fun content!

Fun means that after doing that content once, I can tell: "Wow, that was amazing, I want to do it again! And I want to call my friends for it to make it even better!"

You're not wrong. We need to stop having 20 threads all basically saying the same thing. We need three threads. "Like it", "Hate it", and "Suggestions" that is it. Deep Dungeon is a great roguelike take on the dungeons we already have. It's not perfect, but throwing out composition makes it a lot more fun than a normal dungeon. Allowing people to play it in different ways is arguably the best thing they've ever done in the game. I can go in solo, I can go in with a few friends, I can even get a pick up group who make life easier. Is it hard? No, but considering how much grind is involved that's a good thing for now. Most people who have made a concerted effort have already cleared all of the floors at least once. Those of us who took more casual routes will finish in about a week, or when our premade party gets there.

Alternatively, for those who want challenge, why don't you push the idea of a boss gauntlet? Trash mobs and dungeon floors aren't ever going to be "fun" because there will always be a meta or gimmick to it even when the mechanics are EX or Savage levels of difficulty.
