Sadly for you, the new content is very relevant to you. Everyone starts at level 1 in the palace of the dead and with the same items. Having started only last month, I was really looking forward to enjoying new content first together with everyone who's been playing for a long time. Unfortunately I've been stuck for 6 and a half hours trying to get the game to patch.
