Progress is ONLY saved every 10 floors. If you clear floor 5 and leave, you start on floor 1. If you clear floor 10, you start on floor 11. If you clear floor 15, you start on floor 11.

SE always loves to entertain us that way. Nope, not automatic, you need to choose to save.
