Appreciating the Antagonists of FFXIV (SPOILER WARNING FOR ENTIRE GAME)

Hey there! As you well know, there are many, many antagonists in FFXIV who wish to see the Warrior of Light fail. Ahead of 3.35's Deep Dungeon, "Palace of the Dead", I just want to appreciate those who have tried and failed to stop the Warrior of Light!

And considering the myriad of content available in the game right now, it seems like 90% of it has an associated antagonist! And I would like to appreciate their presence here! Now many of these antagonists are not evil, they aren't even villains or antiheroes. They're just rivals or opponents you must face.

If you wish to celebrate an antagonist (If they were an antagonist only briefly, please focus on their time AS an antagonist), please reply to this thread to add them to the list!

WARNING! HERE THERE BE SPOILERS FOR PRETTY MUCH THE ENTIRE GAME, ALL SIDEQUESTS AND SIDE CONTENT! DO NOT PROCEED UNLESS YOU EITHER DON'T CARE ABOUT SPOILERS OR HAVE DONE ALL OF THE THINGS.

Here are some I personally respect:

    CHOCOBO RACING:

Joseph and Teioh - One of the more challenging opponents when he shows his face in the R-300 races, he lives up to his role from Final Fantasy VII!

    DIADEM:

Brachiosaur - Who would have thought that the most nightmarish part of the Diadem was a massive herbivorous dinosaur who happened to also have total command of obscenely powerful magicks!?! Certainly surprises me every time a Brachiosaur spawns!

    HULLBREAKER ISLE (HARD):

Mistbeard - An absolutely amazing fight against the man, the myth, the legend! Not always an antagonist as he takes an active role in aiding the Warrior of Light during the Lv52-60 Warrior Job questline, but his reveal into Mistbeard halfway through the final boss was really cool!

    THE VAULT:

Ser Charibert - Mr. "Sickness Must Be Purged!" himself. Whether you hate him or really, really hate him, you cannot deny the sheer wave of FFXIV memes he alone has spawned, probably more than any other FFXIV NPC (aside from Hildy, of course!)

    THE CRYSTAL TOWER TRILOGY:

Nero tol Scaeva - I doubt anyone expected to see him again after the finale of 2.0's main storyline, but here he is, following Cid deep into the ruins of the Labyrinth of the Ancients, Syrcus Tower, and ultimately the World of Darkness to discover some technology to rival the Ultima Weapon, he ultimately finds his conscience as well as an iota of respect for his rival. I definitely look forward to seeing more of him around.

    MAIN SCENARIO:

Ilberd - This guy, I swear. He caused so much chaos throughout A Realm Reborn, so many despicable things, all just to take Raubahn down a few pegs. Absolutely love to hate this guy.

For as much as they hype him up the fight is pretty dull, he honestly does more damage and is more dangerous with his axe compared to when he dons his mask and pulls out his gun.

I don't appreciate Ilberd, the guy is a traitor to Eorzea and even Ala Mhigo for what he did - I'm usually a very forgiving person but for him I'm willing to make an exception.
I just felt so cheated that the big showdown with him in Heavensward... was so anticlimactic (the player beats him up along with Yuyahase and Laurentius in Halatali.... and all three run away with their tails between their legs. It was just so unsatisfying. I just hope he along with his traitorous Fourth-division cronies are planned for a definitive battle in the future, as I want his skull on my desk as a coffee tumbler, and his hide stuffed and mounted outside my company house as a training dummy,
such is my seething hatred towards him.

I like Ilberd. He's an excellent example of how hypocritical Eorzeans - and especially Ala Mhigans - are. Much of what he brought about was due to how incompetent and arrogant many of the Scions and leader figures had become. I suspect he'll do something even more horrific next time we see him.

It's a shame the scheming he participated in didn't succeed at killing Nanamo and Raubahn though.

Thordan and his 12 Knights are quite memorable; a shame that many of the knights didn't have much dialogue/ plot relevance, but the ones that do are memorable.

Lolorito is good too for manipulating everyone and still getting away with it due to Ul'dah's laws all without the help of Asciens and other non-Eorzeans.

I also have to say that I am liking Diabolos in the Shadow of Mhach saga. His fellow Voidsent were captured and used as fuel to power BLM magic. If they disobey they'll get killed via Nullstone. His Queen is also imprisoned. Given these revelation, I can say that I actually felt sympathy for these Voidsent. Too bad they seek to destroy the world now, oh well.

Lastly, Solus: the 1st Emperor of Garlemald. Why? He just seems more capable and interesting than Varis. I'm hoping they'd use Allagan technology to resurrect him ala Xande.

I feel the same way about Laurentius.
After all I've done to give the dude a chance at redemption, this is how he repays me? He says that he's never was a hero and never will be? Xiaomu will gladly put the ungrateful traitor to the blade. And it looks like I'm not the only one who want his head.

Also, kinda wish we see more of the more minor villain groups such as the Corpse Brigade (Which I guess will get more focused if 4.0 does involve Ala Mhigo) and especially the Alacran.

I know it's a common answer but Edda, i love the way she went complitely nuts

Don't know if they can be seen as an antagonists but Ramuh and Titan, like the way the stand for their "people", the way they want to protect them above all, contrary to others like Garuda for example

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
