You guys realize that the OP suggests replacing the proposed "special mount" reward for those that pay from December to 2.0 with colored chocobos instead - not just simply adding colored chocobos...
Colored chocobos are basically a given in 2.0 and the future of chocobo breeding regardless of whether or not we get a "special mount" for these months of payment. You want to waste the opportunity for something like a "special mount" to receive something that's guaranteed to be out in time?
Honestly, I'd prefer having something that will never be available again than just getting something early.

I wasn't proposing anything. Only pointing out that having monster mounts doesn't have a FF feel. Don't really care what they are gona give to ppl who stay and pay.You guys realize that the OP suggests replacing the proposed "special mount" reward for those that pay from December to 2.0 with colored chocobos instead - not just simply adding colored chocobos...

I just wish they'd stay more with the franchise and less with the other mmos. Most mmos have the random monster mounts. FFXIV could have the ultra customizable chocobo system and give some special something to the ppl who stick.
IMHO i think they are just giving monster mounts to make sure some ppl will stay when they start charging. Because that's the quickest thing they could think of and knew it would please the other mmo crowd. I'm probably right on this one.
(My opinion)(^_~)
Oh Sakaguchi... where are you !?
I made a similar Quote about this exact thing in one of the other Mount Forums and I 100% agree with you.

I support this thread !

The word 'instead' is what drew the most attention outta meh :P
I'm still not so big on the idea that if it hasn't been done in Final Fantasy before, doing so now would make it a 'copy' of everything not Final Fantasy. It limits creative growth. Dragoon never fought with a dragon it couldn't ride before, but look how much love XI's wyvern got even though it made the class so awkward it wasn't until many retroactive version updates past the job's introduction that it actually got any respect.
That said, Square Enix hands out goofy shit all the time to people who give them money. Hell, remember last week when I was saying, "When's the last time you saw a HARPSICHORD!?" as evidence that some things really are limited-time? Guess what they announced as the in-game bonus item for buying their new soundtrack as if to backhand me for that comment! It's back from 2004! lol
Like everything I assume the idea of change will polarize the community - but, as I tend to fall on the logical side of things, I don't think it'll break the lore if when times get tough, we get tougher, and the survivors of the calamity train some monsters to survive. Doesn't make it World of Final Fantacraft, imho.
Meanwhile, in a perfect world where the most logical aspect of everyone's
argument actually counted for something...

D=!
I thought Yoshida was trying to capture the FF feel!
Chocobos are to FF as Peanut butter is to Jelly!
But seriously this time...
I wish Yoshida would really consider about the versatility of chocobos and how to apply them to FFXIV.
It would feel a lot more like a Final Fantasy with chocobos primarily because they, like moogles, have become an icon of the Final Fantasy name.
Having a Gobbue, Ahirman, and Drake mount feels just so... weird and out of place?
I realize that a dragon mount isn't new to Final Fantasy because Kuja had one, but then again... Dragon and Drake are two different beasts.
I'm just saying, I'd like there to be some relevance to the mounts Yoshdia picks rather than seemingly pull them out of the ether. If he is trying to recapture the FF feel as he had stated before then he needs to stick to the FF lore. He needs to consult the FF lore first before looking for outside help.

As far as drakes go, the Amalj'aa already ride them. I don't recall anybody complaining about non-chocobos being used as mounts when the Operation: Pulling Fangs storyline made that pretty clear. Why can't I sit on that same saddle as a lalafell? Racism, says I! Racism!
"Oh, put it back in the deck, Moose."
YOU PUT IT BACK IN THE DECK! LALAFELL POWER!
/is dragged off squeaking like an angry rodent
LALAFELL POWERRR!!!!

My thoughts exactly. It doesn't make any sense to limit Final Fantasy to only things that the franchise has done previously, and it has never limited itself this way in the past.I'm still not so big on the idea that if it hasn't been done in Final Fantasy before, doing so now would make it a 'copy' of everything not Final Fantasy. New creative additions are just as important as old nostalgic traditions when it comes to preserving the Final Fantasy name.
It's silly to think that Yoshi will add things without considering the lore. Rest assured, anything that's added to the game will be accompanied with sufficient lore to support it, mounts included.Having a Gobbue, Ahirman, and Drake mount feels just so... weird and out of place?
