    Not maxing the starting class

    Hello!

I have a question. I started out as a Marauder. However, I changed to Rogue when I reached level 10. I plan on maxing my Rogue and will probably not touch my Marauder till later on.

Will I be penalised for not maxing my Marauder first? Will I be unable to unlock anything?

    Thanks!

I am new to the game too, but there will be no penalty. All the main story quests just rely on your character being a certain level no matter what the role is. So you could be a level 15 Rogue and still proceed when that level is needed for the next quest.

The only thing you miss out on is the individual stories that go with each role or class. So a marauder has quests that delve in to a certain storyline vs rogues having a different side storyline, but they don't impact your overall main story other than fleshing out some side stories in eorzea.

No need to worry about this. As the others have said, theres no penalty for switching. The game is designed around your character being able to do almost everything so itd be counter-intuitive to put a penalty on people for experimenting after encouraging it. And rogue, in particular, isnt even available as a starting class - it requires you to switch off at some point to get to. The only things you need to level up marauder to unlock are further marauder abilities, the Warrior job(an extension of the marauder so obviously requires it), and the Dragoon job crystal(requires lvl 15 marauder and 30 lancer to unlock). So if you dont need those 3 things(and as a rogue/ninja you probly wont) dont worry about it til you decide you want to go back.

Edit: Almost forgot! Welcome to the game both Eirene and Grant!

Your starting class LITERALLY only determines what gear your start with and what city you start in (and thus what quests you get up to level 15)

You can play the game anyway you like. No penalties whatsoever

Rogue was one of the classes I've tried the last. Never liked the class in other MMO's. Personally I prefer playing a healer class

But now that I'm leveling one. Got my Ninja to level 46 last night It's actually a fun job to play Stealth is nice, but it seems less required here compared to other MMO's. Now I just need to remember the combinations to make those Ninja tricks

Have fun in the game and welcome
