Please help me decide

I played elementalist and necro in a previous game. Loved both of them for different reasons.
The casters/mages abilities in this game sort of confuse me and I cannot decide if I even want to mess with grinding one up to lvl 60.
So here is the question: which class do I choose for DPS and don't care about healing much as I have never cared to be a healer I just want to AOE and single target DPS as a caster. I would appreciate any suggestions (especially if you know what the elem and necros were like in GW)

Your only real choices from what you've described so far are thaumaturge(black Mage) or arcanist(summoner) which both would fit your liking from what you've described so far. A summoner uses pets to help deal damaged and buff the summoner. They specialize in using damage over time spells which they can load up on one enemy then spread the effect to surrounding ones.

Black mages rely on big bursts of damage with infinite amounts of MP the way they're designed. They have an insanely high single target dps output. And while the Summoners ability to completely smash multiple target with their DoT spread ability, black Mage doesn't fall too far behind with their AOE fire spells and a dot that can be uniquely passed along all enemies.
