For someone new to the game, I do not recommend doing any Relic Weapon stuff. It's a pretty hardcore grind. If you're only interested in raiding at max level, then you're way too early to be asking about it. Just keep going with the Main Scenario and enjoy it. Also, I really want to encourage you to do many things as raiding is only an extremely tiny part of the game, even though it is the most difficult part.

The Relic/Zodiac weapons are outdated now and you will get better stuff going through the Heavensward storyline. That said, they are unique weapon models and most of them look pretty awesome even compared to newer gear so if you want a specific one it might be something you will be able to do on the side. The process getting it is much faster than it used to be but it still will take quite a lot of time.

Finishing a Zodiac weapon lets you skip the first phase of the Anima weapon questline but thanks to a recent patch that first step is a lot less time-consuming than it used to be so I would just start there if you want to work on Anima weapons.

Since no one has mentioned it, I'd recommend getting to max rank in your Grand Company since the hunt system is locked behind that. It's a nice bit of XP and currency while leveling stuff up in Heavensward and it will give you a little bit of a head start in gear once you hit 60.

It's outdated. For level 50 content, the final relic is good, but that's maybe like 3 months of grind when you can easily get a slightly weaker weapon like augmented Ironworks in less than a week.

The only part of the Relic that is still viable now days is the first quest I would say. Doing it unlocks 2 new trial fights which is not necessary but it's good to have unlocked if you're a completionist. Those 2 fights are in Trials Roulette so even if no one is doing those fights, people doing roulette will still team up with you to clear them.

The level 50 relic is outdated gear; at this point its an insane grind just for glamour. However if you're considering the level 60 relic then start your beast tribe quests now. Its also a huge grind but the weapon isn't outdated yet and if you start working on the currencies for it now, it will be a lot less painful to do when you hit 60. Its no less work but it won't feel as bad when you spread out the work over time.

If you do the entire quest and upgrade it all the way, the lvl 50 relic a viable weapon until about level 55. But its MUCH more work then several of the alternatives, so these days its basically relegated to glamour status. The level 60 relic is current and a valid option(though not necessarily BiS) for any class. And to build on what Estellios and Alien said, if you intend to chase said relic once you get to 60 then it would help to spend some time raising your GC level and working on your beast tribe status. Tribal tokens and hunting tokens can be used to shorten some of its steps, and you can get a big head start on it by going early.
