Endgame Confusion: What to do, what to skip?

    Hey All,

I'm new to the game, currently leveling a WHM, 46 atm. I ran into the Beast Tribe dailies and I can't decide if I should do them or not. Also, Grand Company stuff.

I want to prepare for endgame activities such as raiding, but I want to skip outdated content. With that in mind, my question is what should I concentrate on and what should I avoid.

    Thank you.

You can skip the level 50 dungeons and just keep on with MSQ to level

when you hit 60 and the end of 3.0 patch MSQ you will be at ilvl 150 with most of the good content being ilvl 175 minimum with new content being ilvl 205

This is the point you will need to grid Eso/lore or buy ilvl 220 craft gear to get your ilvl's up and then lvl 60 dungeon and 24 man raid gear should get you to ilvl 240

The beast tribe quests were always side content unless you want the mounts/outfits. If you are only interested in the combat portions and want to get to "end game" just do the main scenario quests (with the flame icon) unless you need to grind out some levels and don't feel like doing dungeons.

While I agree there is a lot of content that you can skip, you may not want to skip it. The devs frequently re-use content for various things, specifically the relic weapon quests. So far they have used beast tribe dailies, the old 24 man raids (Crystal Tower series), and the current phase has a fairly large grind for esoterics and your lvl50 roulette which you need to do the level 50 dungeons to access. The game tries to keep veteran players going back to this content to keep a steady supply of people going through to help new players through it. For now you can level right to 60 following on the main story questline but once you get to 60, you'll probably want to circle back around and start working on some of the old content so that you're prepared for whatever the future may bring.

All I can say is MSQ cuz push the MSQ to heavensward content. If you are lv 50 I suggest you could grind poetic tomestones for ilv 120 gears just to make your journey to Heavensward easier. As for the lv 50 Duty Roulette, you can either skip it or do it for the poetic tomestones XD IMO unlocking lv 50 Roulette is good in a long run because you have extra income of poetic tomestones, exp, gils, and some of Heavenswards dungeons are remake of the lv 50 dungeons since it needs completion of those to do the lv 60 ones. Just choose a path, relax and enjoy your adventure toward 3.0 contents.

Don't need that anymore. Whole MSQ rewards now not only ilvl 90 gear at the start, but also 110. Heavenward msq rewards 115, since you're already level 55 by the time you hit heavenward, and level 52 if you skipped half of the ARR content, you're way out level'd for that gear anyways. Buy some 120 pieces if you're doing the roulettes, but don't farm poetics or CT/ST/WoD since it's pointless.

If you need an extra experience boost and you're into mounts and minions, pick up some beast tribes. When you're deeper in the game you'll want to max at least a few of them.

However, on the other hand, when you're deeper in the game it will be easier for you to max them out quickly and efficiently.

Like Dement said, it's worthwile to do some "extra" content to help you later with the current ones. At levels 50 and 60, it's a good idea to do all the dungeons and (at least non-extreme) trials to unlock all the roulettes for tome bonuses. As also mentioned, the Crystal Tower 24-person raids are still somewhat relevant (because of the current relic quest) and worth doing at some point, and they're available at level 50.

At level 60 you can follow this list of Heavensward content from level 60 onwards. Your main priority at level 60 should be capping your allagan tomestones of lore each week (450 per week, used to buy i230 gear which can be upgraded to i240) and doing your weekly Weeping City for loot (i230, limited to one item per week, running Weeping City and Void Ark will also provide you items to trade for gear upgrade items and grade V materia). (Upgraded) Lore gear and Weeping City gear are the best gear you can currently have in the game without doing Midas Savage, and if you wish to do Savage, they're practically a requirement for that. The most important level 60 content to complete are the dungeons, Alexander normal, and the older level 60 24-person raid Void Ark.

At level 60 you can also start your relic weapon quest. Completing the first easy steps will give you an item level 200 weapon which is a good start for other level 60 content. If you wish to go through tons of grinding, completing the latest relic step will give you an item level 240 weapon which is the second best weapon currently in game. Alternative level 60 weapons are i230 Lore weapon (can't currently be upgraded without doing Savage), upgraded Esoteric weapon (i210), or Nidhogg extreme weapon (i235, but you need a good weapon and gear set to be able to beat the fight).

My reply is from a gear and progression centric perspective, but if you want to get into raiding, these are the things that are most important. Other stuff such as beastmen tribes you can of course do and they might be useful (for example the beastmen quest provide you free materia and / or useful currency for the relic quest).

I think the Ixal quests start at 30. They are a really good way of leveling up your crafters to 50. When you get to level 50, You'll want to move on to the Moogles. They offer much better crafter EXP than Ixal. This is of course assuming you want to level your crafters.

The dev team has shown time and time again that they like to make older content relavent to brand new content. For example, 2.X beast tribes are a good source of Grade IV materia. Also they are one of the best ways to gain items for the relic weapon quest in 3.1 (Relics are basically long tedious grinds for a weapon as strong as you get for defeating the end game raids).

My advice is never to skip anything, but don't force yourself to do stuff you don't enjoy. Do your beast tribes, but if you start to get bored of them, skip them for a few days or weeks. Maybe just do 1 beast tribe quest every 3 days until you can be bothered to do more in a day.

Certain level 50 content isn't that popular at all. Like Odin Trial fight and Ultima Trial fight. However you can always ask friends to help you and even Novice Network to see if people are willing to help you.
