    Remove stats from dyed gear?

    Is there any plans to open up dying of gear a bit more?

    currently dying gear will add a stat, which in one way is very cool ^^ but what that does is limit color choices so much, too much imo.

    i am happy with the introduction of the new dyes, simple, basic, and easy to use recipies have been a huge improvement se!

    sadly though i was hoping that we could finally match our gear, but we cant ;;. plate seems to have some nice matching sets(but end game color choices are still very few), but leather is horrid.

    my poor pug has a blue harness a black subligar, light beige colored bracers, dark brown belt , black hat and the most beautiful red jackboots!

    what i wanted was a raptorskin harness and subligar to be red ^^ and have all the bits match as well. dyes imo should be cosmetic only.

    the introduction of such nice dyes has become more limiting then before if stats are the only reason to use em.
    and we are "pushed" into colors simply to boost stats.that seems a step backwards and that defeats the main reason ppl want to color their gear (pretty safe to think that)

    i say remove the stat bonuses and open freely the coloring of gear.
    materia is for stats (or should be the only way at present).

    dye=cosmetic
    materia=stats

    orrrrr have an npc we can go see that will recolor gear for simple vanity purposes and a fee of course ...something....anything really would be nice.

    I agree on this but have a feeling this can't be done in the near future because of how items are done.

    Yoshi said they were working on this on a forum post, that they were evaluating options based on which ones were least expensive in dev time versus client load. Having 10+ textures for every item would be a lot of local texture ram. Also they'd need a way to distinguish between the current versions, like the red Leather Crackows, which are for war classes, and the blue ones for magic, and the green ones for gathering and crafting. so they'd need different visuals for each of those level 25 boots, plus 10 texture colors each. Or even just 3 colors for each of the three new shapes. In other words, its another overhaul no matter which solution they pick, so it'll be awhile to do it right.

    There's some other solutions too, like making only a few peices of gear for each slot per level range, but make each one simultaneously be good for, say, casters, crafters and gatherers (+MP, +magic potency, +Gathering, +Control on one pair of 25 boots). This would greatly reduce the number of item models, and make multiple textures more feasible. However, it would greatly change the gearing strategy of the game, and require ANOTHER balance pass to make it work correctly. Another expensive option.

    Overall, yes, it needs to be done, but they've also got a full game revamp coming in a year, so spending the resources needed for the full blown solutions may not be in the cards. We'll see though!

    Its not cool, its stupid.

    So if I want DEX on my crafting gear for GSM, then I have to buy a purple hat. DUMB.

    Then I have to buy a whole other outfit for a different craft. DUMB.

    You have to wonder if the jokers at SE actually sit a room and have a contest for the dumbest idea and then they implement the winner's.

    But hey at least their dumbness is consistent right?? (ifrit drops comes to mind)

    The current system is a placeholder for a system in development in which Dye is linked to a specific adjustable material file inside every item allowing for infinite color variations rather than just a few. Items are currently class specific because they are supposed to be modified versions of armour not dyed versions of armour(ex. Tassled Funny Shoe not Red Funny Shoe). Color was simply a fast way to implement variation without having to build every new item file while the system remains broken. At least thats how i under stood it.
