This could also backfire and cause people to only ever do certain content when under bonus.

A great point.
It's also worth pointing out that they have had specific campaigns such as the recent make it rain campaign with enhanced rewards. In addition, Free Company actions can increase the rewards and or XP. So to some extent the game already supports this kind of thing, but it can be controlled at the FC level.

If we worry about things like this then we will never move forward and have interesting events that aren't major seasonal ones. The MGP event was great example of a smaller bonus event that worked pretty well. Other games do things like exp weekends and they go pretty well also.

Understandable point, but with there being so many different areas of the game you could put under this bonus, I doubt we'd truly have to worry about that. As long as it's not in a predictable pattern, it could easily be 2 - 3 months before you ever see that same bonus on the same content. With that type of infrequency, we should be fine.

Maybe not if they're made rare enough.
I like the idea of bonus events like with The Gold Saucer thing a little while ago, but you're right. If we create a timely expectation, it could hamper the use of duties not involved.
