They just choose to tie all modes to Grand Companies atm, but they don't even need to, they are just worried about match fixing which is stupid. They could simply go for a mode like say, the Adventurers' guild or the Ironworks put up a training program open to all and poof, no more lore c***kblock. I don't expect the next FL to be GC tied anymore, everyone is fed up with this system. I actually like the idea of GC teams, it adds rivalry and salt which I find to be fun, until a GC is so dominant or overpopulated that getting a match becomes nearly impossible anymore.

Perfect sense would be to just remove it,
because it's not balanced to have not the same population in both GC.
Even worst if a GC loose too much, players is changing GC to a other one and i can understand it's not fun to loose all match because there a lack of coordination.
This is why it's not balanced for any aspect of the game : queuing, and the win and loose from both GC because players tend to change for the winning GC.

Frankly I expect the opposite, that every single piece of FL content will be tied to the GCs until the 8th Umbral Era.

As for the OP. that would only make sense if the Garleans are playable and as far as I know that concept only exists in Titor's and maybe Theodric's RPs. If this were to be the case instead of the three GCs sparring for data on Omega then it would open up the plot hole that is "Why is the Warrior of Light working for the Garleans" or "How in the seven hells did Garlemald accept the Warrior of Light into their ranks?"
