Is this normal?

I failed a craft and yet I never lost the ingredients. It has only happened once and I do not know how it happened. Has this happened to anyone else? I never abused the system or intentionally did anything wrong, it is just something that happened once for some unknown reason.

There is a chance, though I do not know what it is, that you will automatically regain everything you used if you fail the craft. The skill Reclaim bumps that chance up considerably, though not to 100% unfortunately. The base chance seems to be based inversely with recipe level though - at lower levels you have a greater chance of recovering the materials than at higher levels.

I guess I just got lucky then. It is the first time ever occurred even though have failed to craft things hundreds of times in the past throughout the multiple years playing. Lucky for me was during crafting of ilvl190 DoH HQ piece when did finally happen I suppose, I got distracted and miscalculated the final step of it by like less than 10 points out of the 1764 needed to succeed. I never realized such a thing existed outside of reclaim which I thought was the only way to retain materials.

Its normal. I believe there is around a ~5-10% chance of item recovery during a progress break. Honestly I bust stuff all the time since I craft high end items under all conditions, sick, tried, rushed, before a raid, after a raid, distracted etc. Suffice to say I make tons of mistakes. None the less I have a policy of not delivering any NQ non glamour item to orders/FC members. So whenever a break occurs and its recovered I <3 <3 <3 am so happy and then promptly go to bed ... lol

Whats the worst is when you get that magical free item recovery, then you make the same(or similar) mistake and fail a second time - and it goes without saying that you dont get the return again. I mean, i cant be the only one whos done that right? Its why i try not to craft tired anymore.

If it's the first time you've tried a recipe and you fail the mats are returned to you, after that if you haven't used reclaim and it fails you will lose your mats, if you use reclaim there's a 90% chance the mats will be returned to you. Just remember 90% isn't 100%

I'm pretty sure that none of this is true. You always have like a 90% chance to lose the mats whether it's the first time you made an item or not.

There used to be a thread about this a couple years, with detailled statics provided by the community. - If my memory doesn't fail me -, this study showed that :
1 - There is always a possibility to get the materials back in case of a fail, even without reclaim. (the 90% mentionned above is also what I think I recall from that thread)
2 - The lower the recipe, the higher chance to get them back.

Reclaim is only a boost to your natural ability tonrecover mats
So yes you always can get back if you fail

And from experience i've lost more mats with reclaim than without
