    XIV's Main Story Direction?

So I've been looking back on the story and connecting some of the dots here and there. I'm really getting the feeling the story is going to go into the whole "blurring the line between fantasy and reality" theme. Like, maybe the Allagans disappeared because they created tech so advanced that they crossed the line into reality (or into a dream/fantasy)? With the whole mother crystal thing going on since the start of the game I can't help but get a weird Evangelion vibe. Also as the higher up the power chain things get they fade the line more and more between time (dragons experience very little time effects) and reality (people transcending into the flow of energy, just like the Ascians). And I wouldn't think it too far fetched with as atmospheric and fantastic this game is (of course it's Final Fantasy after all) that they are pulling the Reality/Fantasy card on both the game and the playerbase that enjoys it.

If that's what they're planning on doing, that sounds like a freakin amazing idea for an MMORPG. Now just wait till they, some day, release a polished Virtual Reality update!

What do you guys think the direction of the story is going to take?

The Allagans basically nuked themselves when Emperor Xande invoked the power of the Crystal Tower to eliminate a rebel uprising, triggering the calamity that wiped the rest of the empire out and buried the Crystal Tower until it was unearthed by the most recent calamity.

It's in the Crystal Tower raid storyline.

Oh and Xande was consorting with voidsent in his quest for total dominion of the world. His backup plan in case of failure was feeding the entire planet to the Cloud of Darkness. Cause if he could not have the world, no one can have the world.

One thing that's been kinda rolling around in my mind is. What if Zodiark isn't a separate entity, but a body that is one and shared with Hydaelyn? In Aetherchemical, Lahabrea and whoever his girlfriend was (yes, people that's a non-serious joke) mention returning light to darkness. What if their goal is to corrupt Hydaelyn by corrupting us or those who possess the echo/a link with her? I dunno. We'll see.

According to the Word of the Mother Hydaelyn and Zodiark were once one entity. However because Zodiark wanted even more power Hydaelyn chose to divide from him, turning him into a satellite moon.

The entire point of the calamities is to return Hydaelyn and Zodiark to being one entity again, or more likely for Zodiark to consume Hydaelyn and take all of her power as his own and basically eliminate the planet's ability to support life.

More of a thing for the Lore forum.

Maybe this thread was better on Lore section.

But, going to the theme, I think Allagan are not death. Probably they have a hiden place. And hiden city or something, were they just seclude themselves, and isolated form the world outside. A hiden place I want to visit. Looking at Azys Lla, there is no one Allagan there, but, the place is mostly intact (maybe because robots still working), but all machines works an the place is still working. So, that's mean, not all the Allagan stuff are just ruins. The Coil is also intact and at full funcionality. So, maybe there are a place where the Allagan still live, even in another dimenssion.

The story of the game problably will make us know, with the help of allagan survivors, to undestand what is Zodiark, what ascians want, and find a way to fight Zodiark and his menace.

Coil is very much busted. All of dalamud functioned as a prison for Bahamut, the problem being that nature of his improsonment would have eventually resulted in him breaking out of the wreck again.

Sounds like you too would love hear of the second coming of Graha Tia. While its uncertain if the Allagan themselves were able to survive whole, their legacy is all over the place, with the giants, the ixali, and magitek research.

since they went as far as develop spaceflight, it would be cool if they ended up colonizing another star, but again, there's been no word on that, and if there would be anyplace that would boast of such a thing, it would be at Azis Lla.
