Yeah but your suggestion is literally them doing what they DONT WANT TO after SCH/SMNI think the problem with the current iteration, is that Classes are basically "Jobs, but worse", with the only exception being cross-class skills.
Personally, using think cross-class skills are the real failure here.
What I'm suggesting is restructuring things, and treating them as alternate playfulness for the same set of skills, with just a few changes here and there.
Meh I think they should just dump the whole class system, been the bane of the game since 1.0. And yet they aren't even like the 1.0 classes, aka "thaumaturge, the mage who heals a little less, and conjurer, the mage that heals a little more but are otherwise identical."
Considering this game is largely about FF fanservice the class system is kinda w/e
Classes are an obsolete system that they're ignoring. Just let them die.
Not exactly. What the TC is suggesting is for more radical changes to how the overall system works, such as having classes eventually use different types of gear to fill into their newly established role in a party. It's not like with SMN and SCH where they just share the majority of their skills, TC wants to even have the skills act completely different, possibly even have different animations and attack names or whatnot.
Personally I'm all for this, but the way the dev team is approaching jobs now, this is nothing more than a fleeting dream.
If I die, forgive me. I used to be a Dragoon.
The thing is though, what the OP is advocating is basically FFXI's Job System.... which FFXIV's battle/ability system has never been. FFXIV's system is the Armoury System, where 'class' is a misnomer and is actually about equipping a weapon and the class is merely a label used to describe the abilities related to the use of said weapon. Equipping a Job onto that class is merely refining the class's role in a party instead of being more versatile.
Fundamentally there is absolutely nothing wrong with this system at it's core, it's just the plethora of FFXI players used to the Job System are too stuck-in-the-mud to realize that each FF game has a different battle system and ability system and thus FFXIV's system is not a bad thing, it's just a different thing, and rather than simply adapt to it and learn to make use of it, it's easier to just whine and complain and say it's 'broken' and needs to be scrapped.
And before you pass judgement, players were asked way back in 1.0 when Yoshi first took over whether players would prefer to either have the Armoury System completely scrapped and replaced with an FFXI-style Job System... or retain the Armoury System and refine it with Jobs upgrading from the base class. Players decided on the later.
Really I wish SE would stop listening to that particular group of players and trying to appeal to them by tinkering around the edges with experiments that don't work (separate Jobs coming off a single class, classless Jobs that start at level 30) and instead refine the Armoury System (give classes to the Heavensward Jobs and separate SCH from ACN and give it a new base class), as it's becoming so convoluted now, it's losing consistency and becoming almost unworkable.
I admit I really like the Armoury System, I just think it needs a little TLC to actually show it's potential.

If they just removed traits from classes and gave them to jobs, allot of the balance issues would fall off. That or do different things with the trait, an example being Virus. If they had given SCH a Super-virus that works as it does now and given SMN an AOE virus, that doesn't reduce Mind/Int. Lots of room for lots of things.
The maim/mend of THM should not be squandered. >:I

This 100%!
They are changing the core system to something that it wasn't suppose to be to try and please a group of people who don't understand the armoury system.
Classes really do need to be looked at, SE can try to sweep them under the rug all they want but they're there and they're a part of the game, I'm going to sign up for expert roulette as gladiator just to prove a point!
People often claim that the devs are trying to get away from classes but i don't really see the proof of that, is there a source article for this? 3.0 may have given us (extra) Jobs, but as has been said before 4.0 wont have system necessitating completion of the previous 3.0 story line to access 4.0 content. As such i hope we don't get pre leveled classes/ jobs again, alot of work went in to those class story line, i refuse to believe they'll simply be cast by the wayside indefinitely, the chance to go back nd revisit some of those story elements would be epicly awesome.
Its more of how they have been handling the new class(rogue) and the new jobs released in HW. Rogue had barely any abilities to draw from like all previous classes which didn't fit the core fundamentals of the class system. HW jobs starting at 30 and not having any prior storylines and a class to draw from for other classes and jobs was another sign. Time will tell but hopefully we will see brand new classes with jobs in 4.0!People often claim that the devs are trying to get away from classes but i don't really see the proof of that, is there a source article for this? 3.0 may have given us (extra) Jobs, but as has been said before 4.0 wont have system necessitating completion of the previous 3.0 story line to access 4.0 content.
