I am thankful someone in town was able to help me figure out how to change my logs around since this novice network was not helping. I find it funny that someone not part of this program was the one to assist me most including teaching me how to use the blacklisting function and how to contact a Game Master in regards to someone immediately asking me for personal info such as my age, gender, location etc as if I were some sort of prey. I also thank them for explaining several things for me. I now know I can turn off my flag but I would like to keep it to show people in guildhests and when I get to doing dungeons that I am new as I play on console and do not always readily have a keyboard at the ready. This program for teaching new people I feel is a very large step back and I feel I would have had a more enjoyable third day without being caught up in all of this and hopefully moving forward other new people don't get stuck in these kinds of situations either.

We always told people to do this. They never did and asked for a new boot every day.

Always easier (and more fun) to complain about something than to find your own solution. Couple times a week and can't be bothered? What a weak excuse to not type a simple script.

Umm I think this person is saying they asked the mentors how to stop the chat or something along those lines and they were not helping?

No, when you are inserted in the novice net a pop-up or rather a tooltip appears explaining the purpose of it. You can leave right away if you type the / command nastatusoff. Simple. And you cannot be brought back in after that. It's ideal for, say, an alt used solely for banking purposes. To pull an example from the air.

I would suggest you go back and read TamiSanri's posts as they mention asking the mentor chat questions and getting ignored as well as their reasoning behind wanting to keep their icon which I feel is a legitimate one.

I am fairly new to this game (I can only play a few hours here or there because of kids, job, family obligations). I was always curious about the mentors and if I would have enjoyed being part of this, but it sounds terrible. It took me forever just to figure out how to talk to my FC. I was continually just talking to myself wherever I was and wondering why no one answered me. I would have been completely lost if all of a sudden I saw a bunch of people chatting on my screen.

Alas, no one has forced me in to the group even though I still have the green branch icon. I was accosted by a character that stripped down and kept chasing me asking if I wanted to see her "jewel of ul'dah". That was on like day 3 of playing right when my five year old daughter and wife walked in to my office. It was fun explaining that.

First, they don't tell the new player about /nastatusoff and it's not exactly a simple command to remember or even to come up with on their own. Second, new players might actually WANT to have the leaf remain, as I did when I first started, because they want others to know that they are new and may not know the intricacies of the game like a veteran. I was actually upset when I first started that my leaf went away so quickly (it has since changed) as until I hit level 60, I always felt like I was "new" and wanted others to know not to expect much. Heck, even after I hit 60, I wouldn't have minded having it around as I was still learning things at that level.

Why should I HAVE to do this, instead of be given the option to not join in the first place? It's not like invite confirmations are unheard of in this game! You have to confirm joining an LS and an FC, why not the Novice Network?

i honestly thought there was a status display that popped up, with something like "you've been invited to the novice network" and other stuff saying a bit about it. i know newbie confusion is possible but i would think a simple click yes or no option would be simple enough. but i'm not a newbie anymore so i can't say it with certainty.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
