How is there STILL not a confirmation before throwing newbs into Novice Network?

Seriously.... I have a mule alt, I log her in for 2 mins max at a time to grab things from FC bank to put onto her retainers. I never bothered to turn off her leaf, cuz seriously, 2 minutes once every two weeks or so... who would have thought. Today, I got invited and thrown into the Novice Network by someone who happened to be standing next to me when I logged in.

That REALLY needs to pop up a window explaining Novice Network and ASKING if the player actually wants to join it. I can't believe this wasn't an option at the beginning, or that it hasn't been changed yet. At the very least, in all the chat window spam that happens when you get put into the channel without your permission, you could include a way to remove yourself and how to avoid being added back in the future.

Seriously.... no one likes being forced into situations they know nothing about without so much as a "Hey, this is a really neat thing you might want to try because you're new, Do you want to give it a try?"

There's an idiot notorious on Lamia for inviting ANYONE into the novice network including bots. The same idiot spam invites for his FCs, go figure.

We do need a confirmation screen for novice network invitations.

If it's such an annoyance, just take the two seconds it takes to type /nastatus off, and you'll never be added again. Problem solved.

As for actual new players, it's actually there to help them. If they don't want the help, they too, can turn it off. Or just uncheck it in the chatlog options, so you'll still be in it, but won't really notice it.

What if there is an actual newbie and they didn't want to join it? It should be a pop up, "Would you like to join the Novice Network?" instead of slapping you straight into a chat channel without you knowing about it.

I don't disagree. But now you have the problem of it popping up everytime a mentor runs past you. And a lot of us remember the days of friend requesting gil sellers, and the flood of posts about it needing fixing. I don't see the issue with just turning the NA status off, or unchecking it in the chatlog. A person competent enough to install the game should be able to google themselves to this work-around.

To be fair the reason SE gave for not having a confirmation box was that if someone was new they may not know how to accept, if that is their expectation of a newbie I highly doubt the person would know how to /nastatus off and I actually had to help a newbie escape the horrors of a very inappropriate novice network chat because they were ready to quit (this was apperently their first MMO) and then proceeded to teach them how to use the blist function

edit: also the person upon learning what the sprout icon was wanted to keep it because they felt it was a good idea to leave an indicator as they play with controller for people to know they were the new one in group content.

You can remove inappropriate conversations by removing the people participating in them. It's forbidden in the rules to use language that makes people really uncomfortable.

I am not a novice and I dropped my mentor status when I realized that SE really had no intention of providing any sort of guideline enforcement and leaving the entire system to be player policed. With a majority on my servers novice network that dont care and use it simply for the rewards and dont care about actually helping new people it goes nowhere so I can no longer speak of what goes on in there outside of what new people I come across asking for help in cities. The entire system is a joke and should not be relied on in any way shape or form to assist or actually teach new people much of anything as a majority of the "sprouts" that I talk to have nothing but horror stories about it including mentors telling them to straight up quit the game because they are bad. A player should not be subjected to taht as their first impression onto a game. How would a player new to MMO's know how to report a player? How would a new player know how to blist someone? How does a new player know much of anything without some sort of dialog box or pop up giving them at least SOME basic information BEFORE throwing them into it and explaining things (such as how to leave the novice network chat channel or report players). If I have come across these people who were willing to talk in say asking for help on figuring this stuff out as I run through town to do some turn ins how many were not? How many players simply leave the game due to their first experience being something that is not just off topic (sometimes that can be fun) but down right inappropriate such as talking about how "ripped they got at a party" and they have no idea how to get away from it or sort their chat logs to not see it or anything like that. There really should be some sort of dialog box that pops up and sits there as a notification and then a help text letting you know what it is how to leave it if you want and how to deal with the basics. There is the active help menu for a reason after all.

If I'm a real noob who just started the game a few days before (my character that was invited is only level 20 on a single class), and I was suddenly thrown into a chat channel, flooded with bright green text, AND have said channel set as my default, I would have been completely flustered and confused about what the heck was happening. Especially because in all of that spam, there isn't a single message about how you can opt out, how you can avoid being added back in the future, or how to turn off the chat so you "won't really notice it." It was a little shocking to me, and I've been playing for a year!

I agree with everything Yurimi said. When you get invited, it should pop up an Active Help window and a confirmation window BEFORE you're added to a channel and having your default chat change to said channel. Honestly, with as many confirmation windows and check boxes that you get, even before level 20, any player should understand what is going on and be able to make their choice. Removing the choice just says that SE considers new players to be so stupid, they couldn't rationally make the "right" choice for their playstyle, so choice was simply removed.
