Thread: If we go back to Coerthas for Snowcloak (Hard) in 3.4...

...it would be great if the other Expert dungeon finally takes us into the Dalamud wreckage at Boulder Down. If I remember right, that damaged internment hulk wasn't part of the Binding Coil. It would be nice to see an expert dungeon that reuses the music and atmosphere of coil turns.

You do realize that the unique dungeon will probably tied to the MSQ, which is supposed to be divorced from most side story content like Coil?

Though I start to wonder how Alisale would return while keeping that aspect intact...prolly just some ambiguous references and flags

It's worth noting that, in relation to the Calamity of 7 years ago, nothing is actually more Main Scenario than Coil.

Not really, since Bahamut breaking out of Dalamud was just one of the Calamities that Eorzea has had to endure. It was part of the 1.0 story, while the 2.x-3.x MSQ shifted to something else.

While the 7th Umbral Era Calamity was a big event, it still isn't completely tied to the current main story, just like the 4th Umbral Era (Crystal Tower Earthquake), the 5th Umbral Era (Ice age) and the 6th Umbral Era (Flood) aren't tied to it either.

Alas, I'm pretty sure the Dalamud wreckage at Boulder Downs will forever be unused, as it was my understanding that it was originally intended to be a fourth Coil of Bahamut - from what I recall originally SE planned to have the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid line be an extended quest line with five separate Coils, one in each region (presumably the 'final' one would have been the big chunk surrounded by corrupted crystal in the Singing Shards in Mor Dhona), but because players were completing Coils much faster than they had allowed for, SE ultimately decided to abandon the idea and wound up the raid storyline with making what would have been the third Coil the Final Coil.

So sadly, the chunk of Dalamud peeking out of the snow in Boulder Downs is pretty much abandoned and won't be used for anything as far as I can see.

That's kinda sad. The Singing Shards locale in particular is just such an incredibly distinctive set piece. Hopefully they do something with it someday.

Turn 4 of the Final Coil actually takes place inside the Ragnarok in the Singing Shards, just like turns 1-3 take place in the Ragnarok in the Burning Wall.

Do you have a source for this? That sounds incredibly doubtful given how they implemented it... They planned for five Binding Coils, so pretty much one per patch, but because it was cleared faster than expected they lowered it to three? Never mind that that doesn't really make much sense (if we're clearing it fast, we need more, not less...), for them to even change their plans like that, they'd have to have released Coil first to know how quickly we burn through it... That means they made this assessment between 2.0 and 2.1, which seems incredibly late to be making a change like that... From what I recall the final cutscenes were ready well in advance, and I imagine the structure surrounding them was pretty solid at that point too...

Heck, if true that actually makes it all the more likely that we'd get something like Boulder Downs, doesn't it? If they originally had plans for it as perhaps the Forth Binding Coil, but abandoned them, that's wasted resources, even if it's just concepts... Much better to adapt them into something different than to just abandon them completely, right?

I'd say whatever Snowcloak HM is, it would be well past set in stone at this point. The dungeon will likely come in around 2 months and probably has been in production since 3.2 launched if not earlier.
