Are the DPS checks for Nidhogg EX excessive?

After several weeks of failed groups that try to get past the DPS check, I am starting to wonder if the DPS requirements are excessive in regards to the player base. What is the needed ilevel to clear it? Everybody in 235+? Do I need to wait a few months for people to get better gear or should I break down and buy a clear from a server first FC?

Since when in HW was an EX encounter blocked by anything other than its HM equivalent?

Now i see why majority of people in this game are terrible if they are like this person...

If the OP didn't feel like she was struggling, she wouldn't have posted here. By my standpoint, initiative makes good character.

Niddy is much more mechanic reliant than DPS heavy. You have to be able to see where cauterize is going. Coordinate with towers and with fang and claw. You have to hope your healers are competent enough to heal through ahk mourn and your fellow DPS to not die and increase the burden for this healing on the healers.

Go check your DPS with SSS. If you beat it by a mile, GREAT! You aren't the problem. If you barely beat it or fail, consider looking up some refresher guides and bring food next time. Good luck!

Edit: If you still main WHM look for your own Co-Heal, that can both keep up dps and take over when you can put your DoTs up.v you should be able to do a full opener in this fight.

Go check your DPS with SSS.

SSS is something that is suspect in my eyes. I know how low the DPS can be and still get a kill. I know what I do with my crappy geared MCH in that fight. Based on this, I know what I could do with my similar crappy geared SMN in this fight, after getting a little bit comfortable. It would be more than enough, not even close to the bare minimum. But I did fail at the dummy with 1% left (one try).

Nidhogg EX is easier than Sephirot EX o.O

The DPS checks aren't the issue. People simply don't know how to properly dodge mechanics. Thankfully, SE seems to be moving in the direction of scaling the difficulty in lieu of catering. In any case, you don't need to clear an EX to do others. They stopped that restriction after... Ifrit, was it?

I don't get how you could think Nidhogg EX is harder than Sephirot EX -- especially if DPS is your issue.

None of them have been blocked, except back in 3.0 where Ravana EX was blocked behind Bismarck EX, however all recent EXs (Thordan, Sephirot, and Nidhogg) are separate from each other. You don't need to complete one to unlock the other, not since 2.3 where they split Garuda/Ifrit/Titan EX from the 2.2 primals, then 2.5 where they started splitting the EX's to not be locked behind Mog EX and Levi EX.
